Default VVTi Question

I've been trying to troubleshoot a very annoying problem with my tC for a while now. While trying to rule out the VVTi I unplugged the harness that runs to the VVTi oil control valve. I felt no difference in the way the car runs. I should have felt a noticable difference in power correct?

Just out of curiosity. Why would you want to unplug that?
