My car is sputtering pretty bad, and wont rev past 3000 rpms. I have no tools with me to start tearing apart my CAI. Could it be my MAF? The engine still cranks over, and idles...

 

that sucks a local friend here did this ish and his car ended up needing a new engine but then again his didnt even start or turn over. hope yours doesnt need replacement. try turning it on and leaving it on maybe the heat will dry out the water?

Ok I'm slammed, have no fender liners, and run a CAI...worst possible conditions, and it was raining like crazy on the 405. I really didn't want to drive, but I have finals tomorrow...

Any way after I turned off my car, I saw the water rush out of my CAI...this is when my heart sank. I'm surprised my car made it back. Its idling pretty harsh.

 

water came out after u turned the car off? wow so u had time to get out of the car and still see water coming out....

 

Ya I took a picture of it.

Well I fixed it. Took apart the CAI, Cleaned the MAF, Dried off the Throttle Body, and she's running strong again.

 

dang, you have to be more careful next time. I would suggest you switch over to a SRI. Rather be safer than sorry.

bypass valve for extra precaution...NorCal rain is much worse than SoCal rain...oh how i miss the OC

 

I had the same happen to me a few months ago. It sputtered and i couldnt rev past 4k and so i parked and turned off the car and water poured out. I took off the extension on my injen cai and changed the oil and spark plugs and it runs perfectly

 

i would prob look into ether a SRI conversion or a bypass valve i think AEM makes one

 

Did you submerge the filter in water? If not, then what kind of filter are you running, just so I'd be sure to stay away from them?

 

MAF, my ____ was shot last year everytime i hit the gas hard it would go to 3k rpm and sputter and wouldnt go any further then that.

 

yeah aem bypass filter will do the trick, I have an unused brand new one if you want to buy it. I'm surprised it was actually that wet without driving through a trench.
