if you remove the catalytic converter from the midpipe nothing will happen. i mean you will not get any CEL as this is after both sensors so you will be fine in that aspect. as far as noise/performnace, you will definately see an increase beucase the cat is very restrictive, why do you thiink so many remove them and put test pipes instead.

if your talking about the primary car however, the only way to do that is to get headers, which will cause a cel

i dont know anything about texas emissions, but here in cali they will not take it off..

what you can do is take your midpipe off(its easy) then drive down to a muffler shop and have them remove it, say its like for a race car or something.. they wont say anything then

No, you won't pass an emissions test without a catalytic converter. Nor will you notice any gains from removing it.

I think that at least he will gain 1 or 2 HP and a little louder exhaust.

Default you might wanna double check

i am not speaking from experince with the scion but i do know for mustangs after 1996 that came with the govermant requiered OBDII (on board diognastics second generation) the second O2 sensor is there to check the exhaust after it passes out of the cat if there is no change like when u have the cat removed it will give u a check engen light and and if u pul the code from the computer it will indicate that the O2 isnt sensing the change my sujestion is a high flow cat they arnt as restrictive they will boost HP and u can stil pass emisson u can take off your mid pipe and take it to a muffler shop and have them put one on its the best way to avoide headach and still be legal

i am sory if my spelling is like horable had a long night still getting over it

There is no O2 sensor after the 2nd cat. It can be removed with no CEL.

yeha i can see the second cat being removed all together and maby u can just replace the first cat with a high flow it will make the sound a bit louder with out making it buzz if u have no cats right now my xb still has the stock exhaust but my 92 mustang has headers with open exhaust and after they where put on it got hella louder and at various RPM it will buzz a little bit but at like crusing RPM its fine

I would say you will see minimal gains. Contrary to what many assume, I have read many cases where absolutely no power was gained by removing the CAT. I also have had the cat removed on cars and had no noticeable effect other than noise whatsoever, and that was a CAT with 60k miles on it. They are not as restrictive as some may think. You can try it..if an exhaust shop will install a test pipe for you. But dont expect to see huge gains.

engifineer is right most newer cars have nothing to gain from lossing there cat's my mustang is a race only car so there was no reson to keep them on and there was a real diffrence when there where removed but thats only bacause the power level was much to high for the stock cats current cats are far less restrictive unless u are making mad power but by that time i would recomend that and one get a custom exhaust made for there power level a open exahust will only make power when more power is there to be had ...

Get a screwdriver and a hammer and poke a few holes into the sound chamber? I don't know man, loud is usually synonymous with crap :p

dude... dremel a hole in your muffler, only way to get louder than you are

i personally think the TRD is loud enough from factory, when you remove the resonator it gets louder, and when you remove the cat.. it will sound like hell

Som muffler shops will maybe take it off for you, but mind as well just get another mid-pipe or a cat-back system in.
