Since it was new:
4qts Valvoline Synthetic and a wix 51394 oil filter.
Change it every 6K
I dont drive the car hard. Just everyday to work and back.

But apparently, the threads aren't working, because everyone is still changing full synth at 5k miles. Why not just make a pile and burn your money? 7500 is the low end change interval for synthetics. Amsoil will go 15k and more. If you wanna crawl under the car every few months, go back to SuperTech for $1.50 a quart. It'll work the same.

First I've heard of that, I must admit. I'm past 25k, I don't know if that qualifies as new any more. Unless that source means "new" as in cars produced in the last 5 or so years, in which case I have to doubt it, as I knew tons of Honda guys that ran RP exclusively for years and years.

Amsoil 5w30 with a toyota filter.
I was running Mobile1 before, now I moved to Amsoil, its on its 2nd oil change with Amsoil. With the Mobile1 I was changing every 5K. With the first Amsoil change I ran that for 6500miles. Now with the 2nd Amsoil I will run it a little longer. I know Amsoil is rated at 15K, the only thing I worry about is the oil filter itself, can that last a long time w/o getting clogged up ya know. I would rather leave the oil in there for longer and change the filter at 5k and leave the oil in there for 10k. Does anyone know if you take the oil filter off will all the oil coming rushing out of there? Is there a valve of some sort that needs the pressure of the oil pump to run inorder for it to flow?

I will admit, I use mobile1 and change no later than 5k if I can help it. I have seen plenty of engines at my dads shop that are gummed up and nasty running synth to 9000 miles between changes. My engines look like new inside (the ones I have had apart, anyway) after 100,000 or more miles.
But, I dont use synth to "save" money. I overchange my oil to keep my engine as clean as I can. In my opinion, if you run synth until it HAS to be changed, it is lubricating no better than a dino oil changed at 3-4k. With the price difference, you may as well be running dino. Well, you are saving yourself the labor of one or two oil changes per year I guess.
Also, changing my oil is the time I get to at least get a preview of what the inside of my motor looks like (metal fragments, for example), so I prefer to do that at shorter intervals. So overall for me, I have a super well maintained motor (there is no such thing as changing your oil too much when it comes to engine life) and know that I at least get to see what is floating around in it every 5k miles or so. So it works for me
I can also make a pos cavalier run 300,000 miles with no engine problems :D My 1978 corolla had close to 400,000 on it when I gave it away in the 90's!

I use Royal Purple 5w20 and Toyo Std. Filter "yzzf1" I think there are actually two versions of this filter. The yzzf1one is a different filter medium that they use in Japan, the other is like a paper one or something like that. Put Royal Purple in at 9k and change every 3k since I was transitioning to RP. This time it will go til 5k and every 5k after.
Doc. I can you PM why Moly lube is bad? I know it greatly helps reduce friction and part wear, which RP has proven so one would assume that they do have it in their oils. But why is it bad for an engine? Does it gum up or something, pls PM me, thanks.

All in all... seems like everyone is using a full synthetic oil, so it's just a matter of which brand you prefer.
