Default Whats needed for an 05 scion to upgrade to 09 motor...

Hey guys,

Wasnt sure how to search for this so decided to post it. My 05 motor pretty much blew, so im in the process of looking for a replacement. Found someone selling an 09 motor. My question is, aside from the maf change, what else would i need for the swap? Would i need the pcm, or would i be able to use my existing 05?

Thanks in advance

DC

hmmm new MAF and connector, new ECU and harness, engine immobilizer maybe...just guessing.

there should be plenty of 05-06 engines out there that would work, putting in an 07 and up engine just sounds like a few too many costly problems to defuse.

had it tuned for 12psi for over a year and a half, but after running seafoam through the intake, i cleaned out the carbon build up around the piston rings and my compression went with it... was burning oil like crazy. in the end, its been about a year since ive driven it, and the last time i did, i got a ticket excessive smoke.

Dont ask about rebuilding the current block... its an even longer story.

actuallly when its all said in done doing a rebuilt with upgraded parts can be more expensive than buying a used motor and dropping it in your selv

You don't need a new computer or engine immobilize it has nothing to do with the different years except it has a slightly different tune, it will not hurt running a 09 block with an 05 computer. Maf is different for sure if you have an intake you will be fine, just use your harness on the engine. The exhaust manifold is a little different but this doesn't matter just a new design but same mounting points. I don't know of any other sensors that are different.

you can use same sensors on your 05 to an 09 block.. Slight difference in tune and a very slight on engine but the ecu should be able to handle the adjustments. But im sure 05 to 06 are easier to find.. ive been looking for 07 up motor and i couldnt even find it here in my area

Oil squirters on 07+ along with higher compression ratio and rev limit (if you get an ECU). 09 = win IMO

i have a 2005 scion tc with an engine out of a 2008 xb. for obvious reasons, i had to swap timing covers, everything else was the same......

until i started it. this was around last year i put the new engine in, and ever since, i have had idling issues (very annoying for a dd) im almost sure its because im using the wrong ecu...

is there any way we can use the 2007+ tc ecu in our 05 cars? and still have our airbags and stuff? the only differences i see in the ecus are the plugs, the 07+ ecu is missing one plug. i have been comparing the ecu pinouts, and it seems that the pins are completely different...

BlackKnight have you done the swap? And no idling issues?

If you get the engine harness with it, then you should be fine but locating one is probably gonna be costly. As far as splicing together a harness for an 07+, I can't imagine it turning worse than what you already have.

so... to sum it up... to use an 07+ engine, i should use the 07+ harness and pcm. other than that, id possibly have idling issues swapping over the 05-06 harness sensors, and pcm.
