Is your engine smooth or it shakes very little
I just put like 2000 miles on my tc and the engine is kind of loud not alot and it shakes very very little. Its probley me i just thought it would be really smooth and quiet cause its brand new. Or is that normal?
It my first brand new car so its probley me just freaking out.
I have a 5speed i can feel it a little but when i open the hood i feel like the engine is to loud and shakes to much compared to my friends moms camary but like i said its probably just me!!
scion06_tc: the ticking noise existed before you put the strut bar in
its the vacum timing valve or whatever its called, its normal and does that for everbody, regardless of mods done.

This engine is not new - it's the Camry 4, tuned for mid/low end.
Not to worry.
Follow the manual for oil/filter changes and you're golden.
I did an oil/filter change at:
1k miles
3k miles
@ 5k miles, I switch over to Mobil1 and stick with Toyota OEM filters.
You will always here some noise. Ticking is normally just valves. Some oils like M1 can make it sound noisier, but it's all good. Current models use 5w30 which is a thinner oil used to conserver energy. Older oils were "thicker" and could mask some of this noise.
If you're running a turbo or SC, then the rules are a little different...heavier oil may be necessary.
Answer to the next question: No need to go to thicker oil unless maybe if you live in Palm Springs or have a heavier-duty service like towing.
I've read more threads than I care to on the subject and that's the conclusion.
Enjoy the car and maintain it, it will be/is fine.

i think our engine needs to be mounted better. maybe thats the shaking? i dont really know just a guess. I would assume(guessing)that if the engine had two more mounts the the frame, it would be more stable?
It doesn't need to be "more stable"
Having more mounting points doesn't make it quieter or better.
For racing, that's different.
Stop worrying - the engine is good, reliable, and working fine!

adding more mounts to the engine will just transfer the engine vibration to the body and the interior. just like an engine damper does. For hard launches it is better to sacrafice some extra vibration for the stiffer mounting to prevent wheel hop and create a better, smoother launch. For normal everyday driving, which is what the car was meant for, you want softer mounting to allow the engine to move.
