Internal wastegates do not dump out to the atmosphere if that's what you mean by open. It's released into the o2 housing (exhaust housing) of the turbo.

I think he meant internally gated turbo, so there are no provisions for a wastegate on the manifold ;)

Still a funny mis-word :D

He means manifold setup for an external gate vs manifold with no external gate mounting point..

Wait so an external wastegate would yield more then i am def going with an ext wastegate, its a no brainer.

Also another question, Hey maaty tc werent those dyno run sheets from zpi with a stock exhuast system with a different tip?

thanks, cause if thats the case wont a 3 inch custom piping and a muffler yield a slighly or good amount more power?

the stage 0 dyno was with ZPI s-pipe and a universal muffler. The stage 1 had a dump pipe on it.

I typed log style internal manifold cause I was trying to think of what kinda manifold it was. I read it somewhere but I didnt know if it was right.

Im guessing that the external would yield more power since it'll allow for better flow. I dont know too much about turbo kit setup so if im wrong then sorry. I just try to recall what i READ.

I also believe ZPI has a axle back and stock mid pipe. That is still better then stock exhaust

So are you saying both was 2.5 inch piping?
And if so would a 3 inch make a good difference? Cause i thought i would have to go 3 inch custom exhuast for a stage 1 zpi kit?

The stage 0 dyno used a stock exhaust setup with aftermarket muffler only. The stage 1 setup used just the downpipe coming off the turbo, but the entire exhaust system disconnected from the turbo. Basically dumping straight down under the motor.

A 3" exhaust will help any turbo-charged application on our engine size. I noticed gains on a 1.7L SOHC Civic at only 7psi, so it should definately help us.

The best turbo exhaust is no exhaust at all. -Not my quote, but I forgot which turbo wiz said that before. A 3" will sound great and still flow very well, without losing too much heat (creating backpressure).

i agree. backpressure is always bad on a forced induction setup.

3" is the sweet spot

True. But if you put a 3" on a non turbo 4 cylinder, say good-bye to low end, and hello to a rediculously loud, annoying, and raspy exhaust.

I do agree that you want as little back pressure as possible.

A larger exhaust will allow your turbo to spool sooner. The turbo itself providesplenty of resistance in the exhaust stream.

A large exhaust will affect your low end? Your turbo is spooling mid 2000rpm, what low end is there?
