I've always been a believer (for the most part) of automobile magazines and their performance and parts reviews.
I find it odd though that the two sources which have evaluated the s/c tc both find their numbers so similarly slow and the only impressive numbers come from actual owners.
Many reasons i'm sure, just putting it out there...

But if you look past the subjective part (liking a car, and 0-60 times and quarter times that are driver dependent) look at the numbers that cannot be fudged. They got them ALL wrong.
So if they got something wrong that they cant get wrong, how do you expect them to get something right that they can easily alter?

If the HP numbers are wrong, then I cant believe the 1/4 mile numbers either.

I still enjoy reading those mags, whether i agree or not with what they say. I like to be able to compare what one mag will get for results with various cars-- figuring that their driver would at least be consistant. So if he is slower in the TC with sc, then he's driving say the SI or Cobalt SS or whatever the same way. Of course that thinking could be way off base.
I do like however that the owners as posted on this site and others get far better performance results out of their personal cars, over what the "professionals" get on test mules.....
Maybe SL should have a driver or two that takes these various cars to the track for real world comparisons....
Anyone wanna sign up for that??

Thanks for all your input on this its great.

Wanted to share a little story about my first spontaneous street race this morning.

WHERE WAS ALL MY TRD Equipment this morning!

So there is this two lane strip of road that kind of runs up a little hill and curves, normally I rip it up big time on this section and today was no different except for the fact that this guy in a grey 03' Passat was trying to race me. Now keep in mind I never look to race anyone I just drive fast, some fools think that since I drive fast they need to drive faster. I don't know if he was running the 1.8 turbo or the v6 but either way I knew I could not let him pass. I started to drop the hammer in third and see the Speedo run past 60mph in a 35 zone and this guy must have had it floored because he’s right next to me, like literally head to head. I could have reached out and touched him. I keep on the gas and he wont leave so I just kept it floored and tached out at 6,200rpm. I am thinking now that I am at 80mph that he would give up but he doesn't. Now I am ____ed and slam fourth slowly creeping up to 100mph.

I pull away with ease at this point but as I am hitting the corners my car sways heavily and in that moment I am thinking where the heck are my lowering springs and sways.

Moral of the story is I need some Pounds per Square Inch .......or an M3

Link to a test Edmunds did with a SC tC
Horrible review. I wont even talk the times they got on the quarter mile. I will talk the obvious.

They compare the HP to the civic SI. But what they mess up is they compare the Scions WHP to the Si's rated crank HP. 197 hp Si does not equal 200 hp Scion.

They say the supercharger added 40 hp to the tc. They again compare Stock tC crank hp to Supercharged tC WHP. 160 hp + Supercharger= 200 hp does not equal a 40 hp gain. It equals 55-60 HP.
A review that cant even get the most important factor of addition correct....holds ZERO credibility in my book.

If you do some research you will see that on average the 06 Si is putting down 180 rwhp. I have seen dynos as low as 175 from cars that are not broken in to dynos as high as 189 STOCK at the wheels. Of course this would be on a broken in Si tested under good weather conditons.
That is about identical to what the S/C tc is putting out, right?
Edmonds didnt word anything correctly, but they really didnt throw any curve ***** when saying the two cars are a good comparison.

180 rwhp? Really? Thats suprising as its a front wheel drive car. Maybe I should see what sort of rwhp my tC makes. If an Si makes 180 to its undriven wheels, I'm sure the tC makes at least 140.

My fault, Im used to typing rwhp. It is second hand nature for me to stroke the r key.
Sorry, how about this.

hahahaha

I'd like someone to clarify - cause i keep seeing different quotes

does the SC tC make 200 whp or 200 hp at the crank?

and the civic si -- is it 197 whp or 197 hp at the crank?

Either.

The TC doesnt make 200 whp or 200 crank power.

Closer to 185 whp and 215 crank power.

The Si makes about 180 whp and 210 crank power.

Both cars manufacturer hp claims are under-rated.

i really find it hard to belive that honda would understate their crank hp, unless they had to. it would be huge if they brag horse power at 205ish, better ratings and such.
