Default 04' 2AZ-FE out of a Camry

Do you guys think this engine is too old to build. I mean its getting pistons and rods. It is the same engine that is in a TC correct?

Rasta, an engine is an engine - so I assume you just want the bare block to build up?

I would get a machine shop to check the block for strength and examine the crankshaft. As long as the block, crankshaft, and main bearing caps are all in good order, you should be fine.. no matter the age.

There are Honda and Nissan guys building 15 year old motors..

uh, are you planning to take the motor out of the Camry and put it in the tC? I could be wrong, but in most areas you can't "legally" put a motor into a car if the motor is older than the car...

as long as its not like the early tc engines that had the bad bearings. definitely replace all the bearings.

yeah, for example, if you had a built 350 in your '69 Camaro, you couldn't exactly just swap it into your newer 1984 Firebird (or Camaro) and expect it to pass inspection for registration purposes...

but... on the other hand, you COULD take a LS1 from a newer Camaro and put it in the '69 and it would be just fine...

That is correct. I took a few smog classes (was thinking of either running a referee station or my own smog check place). Anywho, the year of the motor needs to be the same year or newer than the year of your car. However in most cases, I don't think they would be able to tell if its an older block. There is going to be mismatched VIN numbers though on the block and the chassis though.
