-Had my belt slip on me one time, purchased a new belt, using the old one till the new one gets here. But had my tech remind me about why the belt was not centered on the idler pulley , everything else was in the right spot, just the belt was slightly off the edge of the idler, about a few mm or so. sent a email to trd sparks if they can shed some light. if anyone has the same problem what was your remedy? new part? better part?

-my tech was thinking of just putting a washer on the frame side of everything to shift the idler pulley more centered on the belt. could that just be a more viable move.-

anytime a pulley is mis aligned there will be problems with slipping and shearing of belts. i would give the washer thing a shot.

 

Agreed, the washer is easy and simple, all you need to do is move that pulley over slightly.

 

Before doing the washer on the idler thing first check to see if the SC pulley itself is spaced out to that the belt is squared up. Putting a ruler on the alternator pulley is usually the easiest way to quick check this. If it is off you will need to add/remove spacer washers behind the SC pulley. One guy I helped out had an NST pulley that did not have the same back spacing as the stock pulley and required re-spacing.

Other thing to check is if the idler pulley bearing is going out. I trashed a belt a couple years ago when this bearing started to go out and allowed the idler to "wiggle".

That said I have seen idlers way off, in one case the washer that comes with the idler was put in the wrong spot in the stack up causing the belt to ride partially off the pulley.

-ill take a look at that, the idler doesn't seem to wiggle, felt pretty solid when the belt was off before.
