Default 2AZFE Differences from 05-06------07-08 Block/Head

I searched and found no real evidence in differneces in eninge years. I just bought a 2005 block and 2006 head. I know they will fit but I will change out parts such as Timing cover, valve cover, pulley system, upper oil pan, intake manifold from a 2008 engine. All the parts are still the same correct??? onyl the maf and ecu are different?

the pistons are different compression, maf and ecu. thats about all i can think of.

05-06 blocks are 9.6:1 compression while 07+ blocks are 9.8:1 compression. Also the 07+ engines make peak power higher in the power band (and more power over all) so I assume they have a more aggressive cam shaft. And one last thing. The 07+ blocks have oil squirters under the pistons so they can probably run more aggressive timing.

The main difference between the two heads are the head bolt depths. The 2nd gen head has a taller head bolt for whatever reason and I believe the combustion chamber is slightly smaller. As for your pistons, they are fine but pointless unless you change the rods aswell... The rods are the first thing to go and the weakest link in the whole motor. If toyota made the motor with a beefier rod, imo we wouldnt really have to open the motor up to go turbo untill about 500whp. But bcuz toyota did not intend for this motor to modified that much, they leave the skinny na rods in there for cost savings.

no you wont have a problem

I have a 2007 with a built bottom 8.5:1 compression running on stock computer/injectors

oil squirters in the 07+
different size head studs from 07+
different maf but who cares thats not a major deal when building the motor
different compression on the pistons
different oil pick up and pump

the only difference in power is 1whp and 1 tq... the newer motor only has a compression upgrade.. the head is the same.
there is an NCF file that shows ALL the differences.. from what i remember the ones listed above are the most important

Just remember. In 2007 the way cars sold in America are dyno'd changed and most import 4 cylinders lost 5 to 10 HP while our car gained 1 hp. The reality is we gained a lot more then 1 HP and this is shown though the difference in stock dynos between the 05-06 and the 07+.

The pistons are not the weak link... the rods are... But if youre going to change the rods might as well to the pistons to reduce the chance of burning a piston from detonation or burning a compression ring
