Bad idea. you need back pressure still.

^^yeah but it's only blown to a certain extent...2.25 is probably the optimal size for a s/c...even with a few other mods. Now, if you get fully built internals...and push near 300whp...then 3" wouldn't be a bad idea

As ^^^ said ... it is not necessarily a bad idea if you plan on pushing bigger numbers but at this point you are wasting your money. While the Supercharger does give you the "blown" status, you really aren't blowing enough to need 3 inches. I would say that 2.5" would be sufficient for now and later.

Alot of the supercharged Cobalt SS guys up here around me run 3 inch header backs. They are making some good numbers. Now they run alot more boost then the TRD s/c so I might just say 2.5.

blown by turbo, and blown by s/c are two different things. with a turbo you should run as big an exaust as possible, or no exhaust even. the turbo creates all the backpressure your car will ever need. i dont know where people are getting the idea that you can only benifet from a 3" or larger exhaust after you are making x amount of power on a turbo car. however with that said. a s/c is not exhaust driven. there is no turbine creating backpresure. so i wouldnt go to large on the exhaust with a s/c.

I was thinking of doing a electric exhaust cut out on my setup, but I wanted to do either a rpm or boost activated switch. A large diameter exhaust would help out in the upper rpm range I would think, on the low end you would loose torque though.

For just a normal (the way scion set it up) S/C tC I would go no bigger than 2.5". Not only will you loose to much back pressure going bigger, but you will also loose exhaust velocity. You will loose on both top and bottom end.

Now if you are fully built top/bottom with high boost and putting out OVER 300hp you could see a gain over 2.5". Otherwise not worth it.

If your turboed.....go 3 inch all the way....if not 2.5 or under.......

I had 2.5 header back on intake header exhaust...made decent power.. hanging with mustang gts from a roll... turboed...im running 3 inch test pipe off the downpipe and my power changed alot from when i was running 2.5

We actually seen a lot of guys using a 3" single on supercharged cars in the Cobalt world with good success.

They also reach full boost a lot lower in the RPM than the TRD does. I still feel 2.5" for the TRD supercharger is all that most people will ever need. If they decide to up the boost over 12psi it might help.

Ya Cobalts can see 10psi or more from like 2000rpm. Their stage 2 takes them to 15psi... but only 240whp, which I feel is weaksauce for what the car is, and where they start out at.
