400whp Clutch? Recommendations Please.
Need advice/options/recommendations for a clutch capable of handling 400whp. Pretty much it will be daily driver 4-5 months out of the year.
well the act full faced street clutch is supposedly good for 390 TQ....iv installed that very same clutch on two tc's so far with some good results however both tc's are pushing just over 300 so i cant say whether or not it will hold more. one of the tc's prolly only has 1000 miles on the clutch and the other prolly 500. both are great so far and when i test drove the last install i did it felt pretty good. little stiff at first but nice and crisp.

link to what you may be looking for (expect it to be a little stiffer than above but over time should soften up a tad)

My stage 4 lasted me almost a year and I have been pushing more then 370whp and no slippage but then again I didn't grip lol. Stage 5 comp clutch is not bad either as long as you use Toyota TOB!!!
Funny Im going to be in the same market too
I had a thread going on a similar topic a little while back - im more than likely going with either the CM Stage 4 Sprung 6 Puck - or the ACT Street Disc with HD pressure plate - the one rated at 390tq.

yea - and also less shock to your leg. Clutch is gonna beat your leg up. Unless your going over 400trq then dont even think about the unsprung. Also, the number that matters is the torque, not the hp. One lastttt thing ... think about how you are going to drive your car if a 400whp/trq car is in your future. If your going huge numbers on your daily car ... your going to have issues driving it normally. A 350whp/trq tC is plenty fast enough then what almost anybody needs/wants. I dont know what your aspirations are so give some feedback but i just wanted to give you my $.02
^ im shooting for 265whp/trq daily - after an engine build (maybe in a yr or two of things hold up well) I will take things up to 360whp/trq about. I had a 268whp s/c tC a few years ago and always ran into traction issues even w/ my LSD. Now i will have around that but with matching trq (when i get my turbo installed) so I can only imagine how much less traction. Yesterday I was looking for new tires so I can have a fighting chance for hooking up to the road.
here is a link to what happens to a clutch masters stage 5 with 3.6psi and my set up
look at the pics tell me whats wrong with the clutch when i took it out oh yeah and btw this was in only 500 miles of street driving not one trip to the track

and here is the motor that is currently in my car

holding over 400ftpounds on a stock clutch and just fine sorta lol
i have been on the stock clutch for 4000 miles with over 10trips to the track on slicks
waiting on my super topsecret one off clutch......

Torque is what clutches have a hard time rating.
Hold 400 ft/lbs of TQ, on the other hand does not leave you with tons of options. You can run a Comp Clutch Stage 5. Some people on here have had some issues with the brand, however Chase's car has had it for over 16K miles, not to mention about 100+ other owners with no issues.

The other alternative in brands would be an ACT. This full faced ACT will be fine for the power you are looking to hold, however may be a leg workout considering it's a pretty hard pressure plate load.
