89.5MM Piston on stock sleeve?
Has anyone done this? I have an old block I could cart to the machine shop to have them check the wall thickness and see if its possible, but thats alot of work
The only reason I ask is I know of someone trying to sell some Wiseco 89.5mm pistons for a really good deal (purchased them by accident) just curious if its possible to run that large of a bore on stock sleeves and if so, would it impact the integrity of the stock sleeve to the point that it could cause an issue at higher boost levels? Im about to put a new shortblock together, and at this point saving some money without compromising the build would be extremely nice
Toyota blocks are well built in the sleeve area. I do have a friend running that bore size on his stock block! However, splitting a sleeve is always possible with high boost. Have you measured the integrity of a sleeve even with 1mm shaved off? They will still handle crazy boost!
A word of caution.... if your sole purpose is to build a HP trophy then sleeves aren't a bad idea. I for one have never built a block with reinforced sleeves, I've never been over the 1000hp threshold to ever need sleeves.
