Default AEM FIC maybe multi-stage boost controller...

I was thinking about this the other day because I was looking to get a MBC.

Use the 12v VTEC output to this thing:

http://www.3barracing.com/product_2.htm

Couple that to an MBC on one side and straight through on the other. You could then program the FIC to activate the solenoid at whatever parameters you would want. So, activate HIGH boost above 90% throttle/4000RPM/15PSIA. The pressure wouldn't matter much as it already hits 15PSIA while boosting anyway. It would have to meet all that criteria to activate the solenoid.

Also, as long as you tune up to whatever the HIGH boost is at, there should be no changes to the map at LOW boost. Say you have the 5 psi spring in the wastegate, that would be your LOW. Then you set your MBC to 10 psi, that would be your HIGH. Would this even be beneficial as far as traction goes? Hell, I was thinking about doing just because that multi-stage thing is only like $60.

Let me know what you guys think. Like I said, I just thought of this because I was looking for a boost controller. But I never actually read anything about this. Forgive me if this was discussed before, but I searched like hell and found nothing.

I like the thought, but I dont think thats really an ideal setup...
Youll loose time waiting for this to kick in when your in 3-4th gears.

But now is it possible to just wire this to a button so once you hit 3rd flip this on and your running the higher level?

crap i never thought of doing that....iv got the turbosmart single stage mbc that you activate with a switch....switch in the off position leaves you running on the wastgate spring, on position you run a preset.......hhmmmmmmm....ima have to look into that. id like it more if i could switch it on in like 3rd gear cause 1-2nd are the biggest problems with traction.

ok you could use the tps to turn it on and off....under setup click on system, look at the 12vdc switch box and set it up to activate at a certain throttle position.....you just have to practice not to go over the preset throttle position in first and second gear and then once in third put the pedal to the floor....boost controler activates and you get extra boost when you need it.....im glad you made this thread op.....i was thinking about something like this last week but i was trying to find a way to mount a micro switch wher as soon as you shift into third it would activate but i couldnt think of a way to "reset" the switch in an efficient way.

ther shouldnt really be any delay for the boost controller to activate really, once it gets 12volts its working and does its job right then and ther.

I think he meant the boost level, 5 psi and have to wait until 4k rpm comes around to get 10. Then again that was just an example.

I am running the 8.7 spring on the Tial WG now and was thinking of doing this for 10 or so at a certain rpm.

You could probably get crazy and hookup all kinds of things with a 12v switch. Rpm & throttle for nitrous guys, water/meth guys and so on.

Maybe VTEC was useful for something afterall.

As for using a button, it already comes with a switch, so yeah.
I just wanted something automated, but that's the systems admin side of me talking.

i'm looking at doing something like this once i build my motor. gonna but a microswitch in so that when i hit 3rd gear it will switch to high boost. then when i shift back down into 2nd it will go back to low boost.

now someone needs to find a module that just plugs into the VSS wire and detects a specific speed and triggers a relay turning this thing on

not sure on the fic.. but on the standalone you can

still not going to do you anygood.. since when we lose traction our tires are spinning faster then were moving..

They last thing you want is more boost to kick in when you spinning

They don't spin any faster than 2nd gear lets them, (for most low boost applications) dont quote me on this but if we find a way to trigger the solenoid at ~ 50mph i think we will be fine.
