Default Any drag strip advice?

Hey guys I will be hitting the drag strip tomorrow for my first time. What words of advice would you give someone for their first time down the quarter mile?

(dezode stage 1, 5sp, will be putting on a pair of 17" bfgoodrich drag radials)

practice burn-outs for warming up your tires, and then the hardest part is first and second gear. you have to master the rpm to launch at, the throttle input to feed it, and the rpm to upshift at so you don't bounce off the rev limitor.

you got called out phil. launch should be around 4500 rpms. start out with your tire pressure a little on the high side, and then bump it down little by little till the tires start to catch.

With drag radials you have to do a serious burnout to heat them up. Make sure you do this in the water box, because outside of it, you'll just grip and rip...

Get 'em to spin and see if you can get the car to shift into 2nd.... that'll be a good burnout... You'll probably have to haul on the e-brake to get the car to hold.

Oh yes.. additional advise...

Do your burnout, then creep up to the line. Once the first set of yellow staging lights are lit, stop, then creep up even slower until the 2nd staging lights are on. When they start you, it'll drop amber amber amber, green. On the 3rd amber is when you go (I didn't on my video.. wasn't paying as much attention as i should have been). First time off, don't launch so you get used to it all. That tree drops FAST (.5 seconds between amber lights). Then you can work on your launches.

Couldn't have put it better myself. 3rd light launch is key. try and ease your clutch out don't just dump and run unless you have some killer slicks. You have a chance of breaking axels if you just drop the hammer.

well going into tonight i already knew i had no idea how to launch the car, and my goal was simply to trap over 100.

first run. only launched at 2000 which totally bogged in first. horrible 60' time too haha. 14.5@99.79 completely broke my heart that i was so close to 100 on my first pass ever down the track.

r/t .508 (embarrasing haha)
60 2.621
330 6.566
1/8 9.645
1000 12.271
1/4 14.502
mph 99.79

second run. launched at 3500. spun pretty bad in first, spun in second, shifted to 3rd too early and wasnt straight into boost. but way better reaction time and 60' but still have a long wait to go but managed 14.4@100.02 EFFFF YEA!!!!

r/t .151
60 2.327
330 6.446
1/8 9.594
1000 12.257
1/4 14.476
mph 100.02

Not bad. Definitely need launch practice.

Get that 60' down to 2.0 and you'll be in the 13s.

the guy i was lining up with was really cool. i told him i had never been at the track before, so he took his time heating his tires up and staging so that i had plenty of time to line up and be ready for launching.
