Default Any other superchargers!

So I have found out the TRD supercharger is pretty much garbage but how come no one else has produced any supercharger kits for the tC. There is such a wide selection of turbo kits out there its insane and it makes it difficult to set yourself apart if a lot of people are running the same thing! Does anybody know of a supercharger kit there specifically for the tC?

I found a lot of them on eBay. You just have to know where to look...

It looks like that might be the only option! Kind of stinks! Also, are your Ksports still for sale? Condition? Miles? Pics?

the face that there is no room for a roots blower on a scion tc is why there aren't many options. Why set yourself apart when you can just use a turbo, it works, don't fix it.

I disagree that the TRD unit is total garbage. Mine is perfect. ...albeit the second one I've had. The first was a poor install and it destroyed the short block.

The reason no one else has produced one is the same reason no one has produced another lsd since TRD licensed the Quafie unit. TRD's lawyers. Its easier to sell a product when there is no competition.

There is now such a saturation of affordable turbo options in the market that it isn't likely anyone will produce another SC.

yeah, i had the TRD supercharger for 2 years/30k miles, 100% problem free. reasons for the supercharger high failure rating was 1. bad installation, 2. improperly handling , 3. driver abuse.

i had my supercharger installed and i babied the car for 1000 miles. 500 miles of only revving to 3500 rpms, and then 500 miles of slowly taking it up to redline in 1st and 2nd gear while driving.

after that, i used it on a whim. never had an issue, i drove across country with it, i autocrossed it, and i drag raced it. never gave me a single problem.

Thats a very arrogant thing to say, you and bluemeanie are the exception here, there are plenty of people with legitimate problems, and now they are SOL as trd does not even sell replacement parts for the s/c. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to install the supercharger, there are no special rules, just common mechanical knowledge.

What do you consider driver abuse and improper handling? You can abuse the s/c, there isn't anything to abuse. You drive the car and as long as you keep the oil changed then things should be fine and dandy.

I have seen many s/c shafts that are faulty, they are cheaply made, the woodruff keys often snap, and the bearings are only rated to 8000rpm. If you do the math and calculate the ratio between crank pulley and s/c pulley multiplied by the engine revs you get over 9,000rpm.

Yes trd made a bad product, many people are having problems, especially those in hot climates, and if you ask anyone who has experience with bearings they will tell you that, that big of a bearing 6205 on the pulley side, without direct oil and exposed to that much heat, will not last. Even my shaft/bearings will have a limited life, the grease fitting will help a lot, but i'm willing to bet the bearings need to be changed about every 2 years, depending on how much time the driver spends reving the car and how warm their climate is.

I don't want to start an argument with you and I more than respect you and your knowledge (especially on this topic) but "Here" is the operative word. There are plenty of people with the SC installed who have never been on SL or the online scion community. And I would think its a safe bet to say that most of the people, enthusiasts, on this forum were looking for a high hp street dominating bit of forced induction and were lured in by the warranty. That with advertised peak boost reached only at redline are a recipe for disaster. Additionally, couple all of that with poor installations and well, what do you think is gonna happen? I find it hard to believe that companies like Vortech and TRD would f something up like a simple, run of the mill supercharger.

True, but a handful of the people who bought shafts from me were looking for ways to solve their troubles on google and found me, those people not being part of scionlife and 2 of them being 40+yrs old and one of them getting it to fix an s/c for his wife who was in her 30's. It would be interesting to find out how many people have problems vs. how many don't. And lastly, come on, trd isn't that big of a department in toyota, they did f up and are perfectly capable of doing so. Vortech actually made a sound product, as there aren't nearly as many people having problems with the vortech made blower. I'm basing my findings on my experience with trd, scion, and making countless trips to machine shops, bearing suppliers etc. The trd side of it, the shaft/bearings/etc is of inferior quality and workmanship than the rest of the blower. Ideally these problems wouldn't exist and people would be happy, for $2k if the s/c was reliable i think it would be a great way to add some pep to the tc. Not trying to start arguments, but draxcalibur is coming in here talking like my dealership saying its the users fault, and that just ticks me off and I bet it would tick others off if they saw it. If he had to go through the b/s and frustration with scion and the dealers then he would be more careful of what he says.

I'll admit I am one of those people looking to buy a new shaft as a back up ... just in case. Eventually I'll want to up the boost and I plan on keeping this car for a good long while.

I'd say you and drax are getting at the same point in a way. You argue the product is inferior he argues users beat the ____ out of it. At some point both arguments cross paths and and the TRD SC goes to crapsville.
I beat on mine quite a bit and after ~10k mi it, along with the short block, were replaced under warranty. The dealer made the decision, I thought the car was running fine aside from a little oil consumption.

OS Giken makes an LSD for the tC.

TRD S/C just sucks because it sucks.

What's the point in spending thousands on a TRD S/C if you can't beat on it. Pointless, and should just keep the car stock then. Basically you just bought a huge ___ paper weight.

Agreed, people don't get a supercharger so that they can drive like granny. And not driving like granny is considered "beating on it" Its a performance part that you should be able to enjoy. But to get back on topic, no s/c so many turbos out there that end up being cheaper, making more power, being more reliable.

I just wish there were more choices. I have no problems really with turbos but there are too many of them. Trying to set myself apart even if I do not have equal power. I am not a drag racer and I definitely don't drive like a granny! I guess if I wanted something faster, I should have bought something different.

Thanks for everyone's input!

you cant set yourself apart if its not custom made. point blank. even if they had another s/c kit you think you will be the only one. no sorry. alot of people will jump on it also. if its not custom made to your specifics then forget it you wont be set apart from anyone. and atleast a turbo you can custom make the piping to be routed how ever you want. you have thousands of different turbo to choose from, different management, injectors and so on.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe TRD stopped selling their version before the Giken version was available.

imo, so does your opinion. Its ignorant. Don't be that guy. "Because it sucks" with out being backed by fact is a worthless reply.

If you redline your turbo motor day in and day out its gonna eventually fail too. I beat on my new SC but I don't run it out to redline every time I get on it.

I disagree. Not beating on it is not running it out to redline all the time or searching for peak boost between every single set of traffic lights. I drive mine hard all the time but I don't beat on it. But you tell a kid who's never had FI they'll get peak boost at XX rpm and give em the keys they're gonna push it to peak thinking peak is optimal performance. If peak is at redline they're gonna eventually kill the car.
