So when do I cry... now or later!

What is ATP's reputation w/turbo-kits? Anyone have experience w/them?

Not impressed. Biased wastegate distribution off of 2 runners and the turbo collects off of the other 2 runners.

I don't have first hand experience, but ATP makes turbo kits for the EVO. When I was on the EVOM forums ATP was the cheaper way to upgrade your turbo, and most people had mixed results. I remember one guy who had success with his, but he had to go through quite a headache to make everything work and his gains we're mediocre at best. Again I'm not trying to shoot down the product, just throwing in some things I've heard about ATP.

Doesnt make sense. Anywhere you put it, its gonna be biased..

Say you put the wastegate in the middle, its biased off the 2 center runners....

The Dezod log puts the wastegate on the collector. As all the exhaust ports go to the collector, the WG vents exhaust gas equally from all the ports.

On the Dezod log, exhaust goes:

Log ->
Log -> collector -> WG
Log ->
Log ->

On the ATP log, exhaust goes:

Log ->
Log -> Collector
Log -> WG
Log ->

You can see how on the ATP log the WG will take almost exclusively from the collector while the Dezod log features a WG that will take from the exhaust stream only once all the exhaust has been collected and thus, no bias.

But the turbo is also collecting off of 2 runners.

ZPI and Turbonetics manifold are the same as this ATP one. Some R&D must have been done for this design, if its popular.

Ease of production is the key for a company making cast items like that.

Like Paul said, it's easier to place the WG there and for enough R&D, you don't really have to worry about WG placement. You only have to worry when you screw up choosing a turbo housing.

Anyways, I'm not quite sure of what you're talking about. If you're talking about the ATP log then yea, the turbo still runs off of 2 runners but when you open the WG, you don't want the turbo to spool any faster. If you chose the wrong turbo and you put the WG there, you could run into boost creep or something or rather unpleasant (perhaps I'd be more clear at a clearer hour but not so) whereas, having the WG on the collector ensures that you won't come across that.

Basically, the WG can be more efficient if it's placed on the collector. If you place the WG on the collector and it opens 100%, you'll probably be running at a safe constant boost. If you place the WG in front of the second exhaust port then it could open up 100% but if you messed up on choosing the wrong turbo, your turbo can gain boost as your RPM climb and you could be walking home real soon.

i know i'm reviving this old thread, but i gotta know, so what was the conclusion? you just have to make sure you have the right turbo for the application (cause that seems like the case in every turbo set up) or can we just say that one is better than the other? and if so...which one/why? (or is that too cut and dry)

It'll work like any other log manifold. If you have mild power as a goal (mild = up to 350whp) this manifold will be plenty.. just like Dezod's log, just like T'netics log, just like TT's log, etc.

It's log log log. (Ren & Stimpy's log song comes to mind...)

log log fun for girls and boys, yea ok, i knew that it was the same design i was just wondering what the final conclusion was, 350whp as a good estimate? (and i mean that in the most general sense, not going into differences there after cause i know there are a ton more variables) thanks B Real

I ran about 225 hp on my ATP manifold with a T3/T04E 50 trim tuned on and emanage blue with 410cc trd supercharger injectors for 2 years and 15k miles with 0 problems.
