Default can an intercooler be cut and welded?

my friend got an intercooler for free but the reason he got it free was because on the top right corner it has a small hole about dime size. idk how it happened neither does he. so would he be able to cut about an inch off the top and have a shop weld a strip on top of the intercooler to seal it?

I dont see why not, i mean when people build intercoolers they have the core and weld end tanks on so why cant you weld a new piece on?

Dont see a problem in this

yea, but its just one end tank, if it was the core, i would rather get a new core than try to fix the hole.

aluminum welding is more expensive, get some estimates first...

im going to have to do some searching tomorrow.. good thing is my old welding teacher is a very good aluminum welder and gets supplies for free from the schools so im going to see if he'll do it as a class demonstration for free.
