Default Catch Can talk - tC

I know there was a post about the tC and catch can but im having a problem finding it. Anyway - I am looking for feedback on putting a catch can in. I remember in the past thread a guy was saying that you should put some type of filter like (oneway) pieces into the line ... I know this post is all over the place but I need help in every aspect of what can to get .... whats good ...whats bad ....what I should do ...what I shouldn't do ... I can take whatever help I can get. The only thing I don't want to do is rush into geting the wrong product. Thanks.

funny you say that i'm torn as well, because the kit i'm about to install doesn't have the breather tube welded to the turbo pipe.

The best most inexpensive way would be to "unplug" both the pcv and breather lines from the manifold AND the intake return. route both of them to a "Y" (or "T")fitting into a cheap can and put a breather filter on the cans "OUT" and let the crank case expel the oil vapor pulses on its own...(obviously there MAY be an increase in blow by do to the increase in compression)

BUT i cant figure out a way to PLUG the nipple on the intake manifold in a way that it would stand to up to boost pressure.

"IF" i get the "Krank vents" it WOULD stop boost from leaking into the crank case BUT there would be no vacuum source to build a slight vacuum in the crank case...(since mine "isn't" routed to the turbo pipe)
is it worth 100 + $ to stop boost from entering the crank case and building unwanted pressure?

the "EL CHEAPO don't give a frag bout my car" way would be to just put a BOBO can on the breather side (to turbo if i get a nipple welded)and catch the blow by as boost pressure @#$%s up your crank case and blows it out the breather. BUT who's to say the vacuum from the turbo pipe is not "equalizing" the pressure of the boost leaking into the case?

damn it i wish more people would worry about shiz like this so we could get more input on it.

2 big dilemmas...

1: how to plug the PCV nipple on the intake mani...

2:spend 100 + $ on a set of expensive A$$ PCV vents only to end up using HALF their function...

Has anyone made a diagram of the best way to hook this up? The pictures in that tutorial were a tad bit confusing.

Thanks!

thats what I bought for my s/c setup. Its nice and compact to fit in the engine bay and if you noticed it has a drain release valve at the bottom to empty the catch can if you ever actually accumulate that much blow by oil

Ok so here is my latest issue - I go to my trusted mechanic to get my oil changed (because i won't just go to any place for it changed) - anyway - They had it on the lift and I got called in to look at the latest and greatest issue w/ my car - ha. They said they wanted to show me the oil on my transmission .... I went and took a look .... surely there was a lot of oil on it. He took the light and looked up and could see the oil was leaking from above. He changed the oil and put the car back down on the ground. You can see that the bottom of the head there is oil which has been there (it was caked on) - They don't know much about FI but they wanted to make me aware of the issue (which im happy about). The guy said that my head gasket might be going because the top of the head there is no oil at all ...just the bottom.

Im being very honest - Engine work is not my strong point. I can have some pretty crazy professional talks but when talking about engines .... I dont know as much as many guys on this forum. My question: is it possible that this isn't my head gasket leaking but oil because of not having a catch can? My car was surely not inspected to determine the root cause of this issue. They were strictly helping me out by showing me the problem ...now I have to find the answer before going to the dealer and hearing their normal BS - I never go to the dealer blind .... I get the facts then go.

you would be burning it, not leaking it

I really don't have to much knowledge regarding blown seals and gaskets and such.

BUT i thought when the head gasket went you got the chocolate milk oil from it mixing with coolant?

I do know that on my old saturn when i warped the shiz outta the head oil started leaking into my plugs chambers.

i say let the dealer that installed your S/C take a look at it.

also jwaggz that slowboy can is nice but they don't mention nothing about it being chambered or having any form of filling.

^ yea thats what I said to the dealer .... i said that its not smoking at all. I thought it would be smoking if it was the head gasket. I am going to look things over tomorrow and maybe get a picture of what thing look like.
