CEL - System Too Rich
So i haven't been around in quite awhile, as the tC has been on the back burner since i;ve purchased a house (yay!) but I checked my mail and got a notice that I'm past due for my inspection.
Stupid I know... and I don't really have to worry about anything except this d*mn check engine light that I can't kill. I'm not gettin any for the cats or anything like that, jsut P0172 System Bank One Too Rich. I'm running a ZPI stage 1 with 550cc injectors tuned with an emanage ultimate. Any ideas on how to nix this one at least long enough to get a passing inspection? BTW I've tried clearing the codes and babying it (not hitting boost AT ALL) and the AFRs stay around 14-15 but it still comes back on in like 10-15 miles. Can I just take the car in after a reset and a short (say 5 mile) drive? Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Brian
BTW I'm in the Charlotte, NC area so if any one know's someone who can help me out i'd be very appreciative. Need to get this taken care of in the next week-ish.

yes, the dmv will know. because after you reset your cel all your cars emissions tests start over again. the only way you will get away with it is if the emissions tests finish before your cel comes on again
I have seen this code on many toyotas/scions start off by pulling out your mass air flow sensor look down in it to see a small looking wire (called the hot wire) check to see if there is any debris or fuzz like looking material on the wire if there is some clean the sensor off with some brake cleaner then lightly blow it dry with some compressed air usually the debris on the hot wire will cause that code..... hope that helps for now.
Well, unfortunately, no dice. Cleanin the MAF made the car run like crap (it was dirty) so i reset the ecu again and that didnt help... Bought a new MAF, car run good again. Still have a CEL though. The ZPI kit came with a "tuned" MAF housing, which means its smaller i believe, to increase air velocity to fool the car into thinking it is pulling in more air than it is, and thereby lower the a/f ratio down to more like 11:1 from @15:1... Could this possibly be part of my problem?
if your running catless then i suggest using ye old anti fouler on your secondary o2, i only suggest that becouse its the cheapest and if it doesnt work who cares your out 5bux. its proly not the secondary o2 thats cousing the cell but its worth a shot.

Yes, it failed because the tests hadn't finished. I found a inspection place somewhat locally here that was nice enough to give me the drive cycle info for the tC... the key was doing that, nothing else, and going directly to the inspection place after that. I'll post the drive cycle info up when i get a moment if anyone expresses interest. 2005 vehicles can have one not ready test, FYI
. For future reference never use brake clean on a MAF use MAF sensor cleaner.
If you clear the light right before you take it like someone else said it wouldn't work because when they connect the computer to you ECU it will show miles driven since CEL ON. After you have just reset it this will show only the miles you have put on since clearing the code. I have learned the tC usually takes 300+ miles to complete all of the on board emissions test. I found this out using my laptop and software I have for connecting to the ECU.
As far as your second O2 sensor is it located after a cat? If it isn't move the sensor behind the cat on your midpipe. You may have to cut and solder longer wires in to extend the sensor to reach. Then you can get a 18MM (I think this is the correct size)oil pan plug to plug the extra hole

i have same probelm but i hooked up a scanner to it and cleared it..it went away for about 100 miles and then came back so i still need it to get inspected so am i suppose to drive around hoping it goes away and stay away till i get to the shop
On my old tune...no cats, not recirc, no CEL...the 02 spoofer built into the aem f/ic works...new tune is throwing a code so Ima try out my old tund and then make adjustmets to teh new one...
