Custom = Approx $3,800
Kit - $2,800(turbo, mani, pipes, fmic, wg, bov, couplers) + $1,000 (fuel management), $400 (cheap gauges+pod) = $4200

Neither include exhaust, clutch, tune, and misc expenses.

but hey subtract that 700 for the turbo and add like 300 and it makes a difference

isn't 16g only 300? my 60-1 is huge and most people dont' even want that.

and also think about this.

subtract management, harness, injectors, gauges and gauge pod. which is mostly stuff you have to buy on your own and you are at

"custom" kit = 2290
prebuilt kit = 2800

spending 600 on other people's fabrication and such.

Yeah...I think the total for my parts, (gauges, pod, all that) came to about $5k...$6K after install and tune which you could do yourself, so yes, you can save a G or 2, but it's alot more work, but then again, it's YOUR turbo kit, not an off the shelf thing, and that's priceless! You just need the time to invest.

That being said, if you can't hold onto cash, you will run into issues that you can't pay for...it's always a good idea to calculate everything you may need and then double it and that's how much youwill end up needing...

my advice: make sure you have a VERY consistant job or really helpful parents

just in case things happen that you didn't save up for or anticipate

it's ok to piece things together slowly till you have enough to put it in the car but just make sure you think ahead too

I'm jealous of any person who's parents help them with this stuff..

When I was in highschool, I built my first motor and I had to fund the whole thing myself. I think I spent over $4000 on the engine alone.. and I did all the assembly.

My friend had to pay for his own turbo kit for this Integra.. it was about $3000 at the time.. a DRAG Gen 3 kit which comes with just an 12:1 FMU and inline pump as fuel management. That kit was pretty good for the price though.

Wow thanks guys for all the fast replys and all the good help. Im thinking now though maybe ill just save some money and take out a loan or something Hopefully i can do that over time.

And one more question i know turbo can give u alot more horsepower than the supercharger. BUT since the cost of a s/c has dropped down to around $2k if i buy a supercharger and put in as much money or less as a $4k turbo, can i maybe make around the same horsepower as a turbo?? MAYBE make good horsepower and have it be cheaper too???

I know this could be a repeat but i havent really found a post that answers this exact question.

Thanks for all the help guys i really appreciate it.

it all depends on what range you're looking at for a turbo (in terms of horsepower)

allegedly you can reach 500whp with a turbo (among MANY other things), but i see that as impossible with a S/C.

you can get a bigger turbo, but you can't get a bigger S/C. you can swap the pulley to increase boost, but i think the highest around now is 10 or 10.5psi (that ive read about).

as far as a S/C on a built motor... if you can build a motor you will probably go the extra mile for the turbo since your results will greatly increase.

there's a thread near the top of the FI section where a guy has gotten (i think) 268whp out of his S/C with more PSI and maybe some other mods... cant remember off hand.

but again - if you're looking for mid 200's or so, yes you can get it with a S/C. if you're looking for 300+, you're better off going with a turbo.

Another thing, if youre fairly technically inclined, is to just get your turbo used, jsut be prepared to rebuild it. I got my turbo for around $300 shipped and went ahead and rebuilt it before i even put it on the car, ended up spending $110 on the rebuild kit as i went with 360 oil seals, which i would recommend to everyone

it would cost A LOT more to get a SC up to 300...with bolt ons, you can expect maybe 240 from the SC...and that is only at redline, so it's not really usable...you can get 240 from a basic, small turbo kit where you reach full boost around 5K or sooner...

There's no such thing as a "safe" kit when you're talking about a turbo kit for a car NOT designed for boost.

You need to be careful with whichever kit you get. Try looking into the Dezod kits. They've been around longer. The only major difference for your '08 would be the MAF adapter.

So you can find a used kit for a '05-'06 and just get a new intake pipe from Dezod.. or TT... whichever kit you get.
