Default Does a 300 dollar supercharger sound crazey?

So a kid i know offers to sell a trd supercharger for just 300 dollars. Its only the main part no hoses, tubes, mounts etc. said his buddy pulled it out of his wrecked car.who thinks its possible and worth a shot getting a hold of all the separate parts needed to install it. Am i the crazey one?

It might be a deal, but much more likely it's some sort of scam... Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

And can you afford to be wrong? If it is a deal, then whoops, you missed out. If it isn't and you buy it and find out it's damaged, stolen or otherwise problematic, you're out $300 at a minimum and more if you've installed it and then have trouble.

In other words, I wouldn't touch that thing if I was paid.

why would you buy a turbine without the rest of the kit?

This seems pretty silly.

This would be a good item for someone to buy and do some R&D on. Take some pics, open things up, and tell the rest of us what the inside of the blower actually looks like

I see this as a golden opportunity...if we get 10 people to throw down $30 we can buy this thing to send it out to Ripp mods and have them take a look at it...hell, I can hand deliver it to them cause Im only about 1 1/2 away from the shop. I dunno guys, I dont think we are gonna get much better of a chance to get this crap taken care of. Plus, its pointless to buy it cause you will never get replacement parts from TRD so the blower is useless unless you plan on custom fabing up everything else for it.

yeah... I dident put alot of effort into prices on geting all the needed parts. Its not a scam ive known the guy selling it for a while, the blower is all he said he had because its only part of the kit that could be saved from the mangeld car. it would prob be to much hassle anyways...I thoght I could save a few bucks. Its a no-go ill stop being such a cheap ___

The supercharger unit itself could run around 300 dollars. What you pay for is CARB approval, ECU reflash, and R&D. The supercharger has already been researched and developed by Vortech.

If you want, you could probably do a custom supercharger setup. Running lines in and around everywhere may just nickel and dime you to death.

A new one? Of course not. Sorry, I was referring to the used blower off of a wrecked tC.

Meh, I would pass it up. I dont think you would be able to scavange the other parts needed to make it work. Like someone else said, you would have to have everything fabed up.

it sounds to me that the parts that were failing are not even going to be on this. the failed seals are on the shaft, not the blower itself....
