yea lets say your cpmpressor fins decide to break off becaus eof contact with the housing....those fins are now in stream with the compressed air headed straight so those piston, when u have an intercooler the chances of fins being in your motors goes gown becaus the intercooler will trap it but anything smaller will go through it
