Default emanage?

Hi everyone I just had a conversation today with Lance from Toyomoto in respect to the emanage computer. Just trying to see what he thinks about it and why he doesn’t recommend it on the tc. The problem seen to be in the “timing”. The emanage does not do the timing well, meaning (–1) on the emange for the timing is not (–1) degree is actually (-1) present. If the motor needs to be retarded 3 degrees and you set it for (-3) it will actually do (-3) present not (-3) degrees as desired. In most cases went retarding the timing in the emanage to a low number (-3) and above the car will back fire and will not run correct.
But the worse problem the emanage has in my opinion is that the odbc will still be trying to correct the changes that the e-manage was set to do (specially with larger injector) and actually “it will” over a period of time. For example if you retard the timing in the emanage, the stock computer will know and will try to advance it to the stock factory setting (this may take some time) but went it does your car will be at the stock timing and stock timing and high boost equals blow engine. If you set a sniffer to monitor detonation on the system you will actually see the engine detonating with the emanage ECU. “ damage ringlands is cause by detonation”
I’m installing a Haltech on my tc.
The Haltech works completely independent from the stock computer in respect to timing and fuel management. The odbc can retard or advance all its wants; it does not make a difference to the car. Haltech is controlling all that. The only thing the stock computer is controlling for now is the flyby wire, that’s all!!
I know most people are running the emanage and some engines are blowing up!! Huummm Im not 100% sure what is causing this but it could be the emanage. Something to think about. I hope this can help.

The topic has been convered before... in regards to emanage and the stock ECU "Learning" around changes....

A lot of people are looking at unichip as well... as that is a POST ECU solution as well...

The emanage ultimate was/is having timing issues with the tC's. The blue box has not seen any issues yet that I am aware of. The problem wasn't people trying to change the timing and the ecu changing it back, the problem was people were not changing the timing at all.

In either event, you would be able to monitor weather or not the timing was being changed with the data logger and see first hand the effects over time of the ecu's learning abilities. I've watched my emanage, my egt gauge, and my plugs periodically over time to monitor this exact situation and saw no issues with it. It all seemed to work as planned.

The timing issues with the emanage ultimate are not with the overall timing. They are with the cold start retard that the engine needs in order to start. The emanage ultimate was not allowing for this and the car would simply not start once it had cooled down. With the timing and the stock cold start enrichment, plugs would foul, and no start situations were happening. I have spoken with greddy directly about this and they are working on a new firmware version for the box to correct this problem.

I had heard about that with the Ultimate as well. Glad to see GReddy is addressing it.

Well, I don’t think is worth risking someone’s motor by using the emanage even after Greddy fix the Ultimate, you still have the problem with the odbc fighting against the emanage.
I believe the sniffer shows the needle flicking for a very short time showing detonation until the stock computer actually retards the timing.
I will be showing all data along with dynos done in my tc nest week with the Haltech. I hope Lance make a plug and play Haltech for anyone who wants to get it.

The tC ECU is very well equipped (smart), however there are ways to make the learning work for you on a piggyback. Please do. I would be interested in the results.
