Default Emanage Cold Start issue

Well - for some reason my car would not start today when I was leaving work. With the Emanage Ultimate plugged in, the car would not start (it'd been running fine for the past 2 months). I remember reading there's a way to get by a Cold start issue with the emanage by changing the jumpers, and I believe I did that when I had the turbo installed. It's the coldest day of the season so far - got down to the single digits. I was able to get the car up and running and drove home ok on the stock ecu (staying out of boost of course).

Is the cold start issue exactly what it sounds like? Emanage Ultimate doesn't work well in cold weather? Or do you think it could be something else entirely.

When the emanage ultimate was plugged in, the car started fine and ran for a couple minutes, then died. I got the car running on the stock ecu, warmed it up a bit, turned it off, then plugged the emanage back in... it started, ran for about 5 seconds, then turned off.

I brought my emanage inside with me tonight - maybe this will resolve the issue. It's open and nothing looks burnt out or loose.

Any ideas?

I have had cold start problems, but not from management. The mini Battery used in our car only has 220 CCA's, so that was our problem. Swapped in a stronger battery for winter time, and putting it in a garage solved the problem. Seeing as how you have done your testing, you kinda have already found your answer wouldn't you say? I think the coldest it's been here has been around 19 degrees outside.

Well, I know it's the emanage... but what could it be with the emanage? It shouldn't have lost the tune map.. I doubt it's the wiring harness. If it's the emanage itself i'll have to send it to get repaired.. ugh.

Check to make sure the ignition chip did not come off the motherboard of the EMU. They are notorious on the Ultimate for coming off. GReddy is aware of this.

I looked at the EMU already - the chip looks like it's on. Hopefully my tuner can do something with it on saturday.

Mine looked like it was "ON" too...its amazing what a bad solder job from a factory can do. Send that biotch back to Greddy. Chris Lum is the man you want to speak to.

Welp.... Perry at Ripp Mods looked at it under a scope and everything looked ok. I just overnighted it to GReddy :\

I might not be right but it is a possiblity. Are you running 10w30 or 5w30? Cuz if your running a heavier weight of oil especialy in cold weather. It will start to thicken, and if the cold cranking amp rating is under 400 thats not enough power to turn the motor. Is it clicking or trying to turn over. If it isnt its definatly you EMU.

I'm running 10w30 actually. You may be right though.

I just got the emanage back today - hopefully it'll work. I have yet to plug it in.

The verdict is... It was the emanage. It's started up and running great again!

Newer more expensive does not always equate to better quality or beter reliability...
