engine install
Well guys... I blew a piston in the tC last friday and contimplated what I should do.
get new engine, rebuild this one, or just fix the current problem (piston).
So this is the plan:
I got a motor with 5k miles and will be installing that sat-sun. As well as better fuel pump, replacing belts and spark plugs, re-tune, and other minor things.
Im doing this to just get the car running again.
In the mean while I will be rebuilding the original/old engine. Since I have another engine this will leave me with plenty of time to play and do things right... internal etc.
I'm planning:
turbo cams
forged pistons
rods
cut head
lightw pulley
and other things to compliment the turbo, meth, and exhaust.
I have a plan!!!
will keep everyone posted in install this weekend and the rebuild.

my condolences for the motor, as quite a few people know I have a blown motor too... except the cause of mine was a rod bearing....

yes, its a turbo. I have meth injection and I was running 11lbs of boost.
I don't exactly know why it happened. There could have been so many reasons.
But no I really wasn't running it hard when it happened.
I should have a better idea of what went on when I finish taking it apart to day.

You seem like your on the right track, the one thing I would suggest is when you rebuild the block (i.e. sleeve it), go with the stock sized pistons or 92mm (custom size) if you want bigger pistons. I had custom 90mm's made (recommened by golden eagle) and I kind of regret all the hoops I've had to jump through (custom pistons, custom head gasket). If I would have gone with the max piston size of 92mm, I could have still gotten an off the shelve head gasket.
Hind site being 20/20 and all.
Good luck!
thanks Dyltone.
So everything is pretty much ready so that I can take the engine out tomorrow morning. I had a bit of a delay because my dad had to get stitches on his finger
But everything is going pretty well.

My little sister lives near you... It would be funny if you guys knew each other. Her name is Jaclyn, she's 22.
Good luck on the motor swap.
Let me know if you have any other questions on your rebuild.

Know the feeling guys im on my 2nd motor but ive but 22k on it beating the crap out of it and i already have motor #3 sitting in the garage as a spare. Im curious though how much boost etc everyone was running when there motors popped just trying to get and idea as to why so many people are blowing them. also what years where the TC'S?
haha, naaa. I'll just wait till I get my next car for the manual tranny.
When I bought the scion it was a "I really need a car right now". I hadn't planned to do what I did.
But anyway, the engine is out so I'll be getting everything ready to install the new one tomorrow. It reall sucks that my dad has stiches on his finger. It really slowed everything down.
The real exciting part will be buying everything to upgrade the original engine.
But I miss my car so I need this other engine in asap.

Wow, I can't imagine an auto tranny lasting on a built engine. Good luck and glad to see you are getting up and running fairly fast. It sucks not to have your car.
