Engine Management Options
Hey guys, i'm looking to run a piggyback system on my Supercharger setup. But I've been having a hard time choosing which would be the best for my setup. I was looking at the Unichip and the Greddy E-Manage Ultimate/Blue. Don't know which would work best. Any inputs? My car is not pulling as hard as it should. Hopefully, engine management will solve that for me.

It does closed loop, open loop, partial throttle and WOT + ignition timing retard. Comes with an internal MAP sensor (16psi standard).
I strongly recommend it as I am using it and tuning is so goddamn easy and no stupid jumpers to set or extra harnesses to buy
I have been comparing the SS unit to the AEM fic before making my purchase previously, and to be honest, SS works a 7 or 8 wire hookup compared to like 12 wires or more? for the fic. The functions of the fic is frickin' similar to the SS unit that I conclude personally that AEM modelled themselves after SS. SS has been around dealing with this piggyback for a far far longer time than AEM
Anyways, I would'nt buy the 1st batch of new fic since based on forum talks, the companies sometimes are too cheap to eliminate all bugs from the program and ensure stability, they let the public experience anomalies and gather enough info.... BAM... a "new" firmware is needed to upload or a "patch" version 1.0.0.1.1. something has been "released" to cure a hiccup that they themselves should have done in the 1st place!
I'm not paid to do this nor did I receive any discounts or money to post this reply. Its a fact I'm having a whale of a time with my car now. My current car behaviour as monitored by PLX R500 wideband monitor :
Idle AFR : 14.4 - 15.1
Partial throttle : 13.3 to 12.1 (as rpm increases)
WOT : 11.8 - 11.9
Ign timing : 3.5 - 0.8 degrees ( 2.5 degrees b4 1psi)
Boost : 10.8psi on 16g (using Tru-Boost gauge)
No issues whatsoever and the program is stable. Call SS and talk to Mark, the main man. He'll know what you need
They have tuned F40s and Bugatti EB110s using thier products. Special mention to the s/c community of Tundras and Tacomas, it seems ALL of them who are on TRD s/c kits uses the SS FTC unit and nothing else..... the final solution established, just like me.

Look for the U-tune guide to tuning the FTC, I learnt a hell of alot on Toyotas ecu operating logic and principles, more so than most forum contents (sad to say
Most threads concentrate and concern themselve over hardware development or new products, no one has actually bothered to understand or dissected the Toyota ecu behaviour and find its likes and dislikes. Yes, I know there is currently no hacks for the Toyota ecus unlike Hondata, but if you bother to monitor all the perimeters on a continuous timeline period (think months), you would gather enough data to draw out a pattern on its brain and establish a pretty detailed baseline, right homes?
Hence we get CELs and when it happens, we try figure out whats wrong and buy stuff we don't even need in the 1st place. We wouldn't have to if we knew how the damn brain worked in the 1st place!
We strive to work WITH the ecu, not try to go AGAINST it. Knowing when the close loop to open loop transition point is the key for seamless shift and progressive power.
I've done it successfully and the damn car rides like its factory boosted rollin from the assembly plant from day one
The FTC units are model and application specific. tCs uses 0-5v factory wideband O2 sensors, my car uses 0-1v sensors. I like their stuff. Unlike the others that are "universal fark-n-fail" piggyback products.
I hope you go through their website and tech papers with a keen eye and you appreciate what they've got
Alrighty Mr D. Caliber
Hey, I definitely need to get my car tuned because of the added header and s-pipe, NST pulley, and modified intake, I'll be running too lean. I'm not getting all the benefit of my header/s-pipe, intake, 9.5 pulley because i'm not getting enough fuel...
So, is dezod the cheapest place to get the AEM unit and harness...I'm running kinda low on cash...any discounts?

The AEM fic is something new and it made sense for Todd and most tuners to familiarize themselves with it since down the road there would be customers asking for it as a personal preference anyways.
No matter what, bottomline is that if it works for you, it works. Period. I choose Splitsec after searching forum after forum hoping to find unhappy customers and hiccups but could not. Besides, their core business is in ecu electronics, nothing else. They don't do intakes or cams or any other hardware, just automotive management stuff. Thats good enough to convince me to try out their products
Check out the AEMPOWER forums on the fic, some very unhappy and confused campers out there on the fic functions and install
Yeah, i didn't even ask Todd about what management to use. I sought out the F/IC mainly due to it's partial throttle tuning and the fact that I can (soon) log my AEM Wideband with it make it easy for street tuning.
I had never even heard of the slpitsec FTC, and i dont' think there have ever been any posts about it on these forums.
And I am on the AEM forums, and there are some issues, but it's mainly with people unfamiliar with the unit. If you take you car to a tuner and he has never used the splitsec, you will have the same issues. It's just a learning curve. I just forsee more tuners spending time to learn the AEM F/IC because of it popularity and company name. So I feel it will have as good a following as the greddy units in the near future.
However, i have to disagree with your comment that spliset only does ecus so they must be better then aem who also does intakes or cams. That's like saying I would never buy a CD player from Sony cause they do TVs, PCs and game systems too. It's not like AEM has their intake guy designing their ECU!
AEM is a larger company with more departments so they have the manpower to have thier fingers in many pots.

Yes, given the budget and concerns over market sustainability of AEM as an entity to survive and grow, they obviously would need to keep pushing out new stuff or risk losing market share against other competitors both big or small in all performance areas. Having a "complete" range of products under one roof somewhat inspires confidence and appeal to different consumers' perception of a "its up there" kind of company. Maybe AEM outsources its engine software development to another "smaller" company? Highly possible there bro
I may have misconstructed my meaning earlier
Since their concentration and corporate credo is to produce a user friendly based and affordable solution to the DIY and tuner market, I am of course inclined to tilt towards them. 6 Benjamins and no problems so far
Honestly, I was looking and keeping track of the fic even before the FTC but in the end, I chose SplitSec because of its suitability for our Toyota engine management and my research through Nissan/Toyota/Audi/BMW/VW forums.
Bottomline : Both units work and they have helped us unlock our FI cars' potential w/o worrisome and possible engine damage
My post was to share with the community on a product that has been proven on my daily driver while running into zero issues. My quest was simple : no jap crap units and no time (months) to tune stand-alone
Tis was good talking to you Meaty bro
