Default For everone with a TRD S/C....

...is it worth the money to buy ($2950 - 08 ) and have the dealership install it ($~900)?

I do want to go f/i, but not sure due to the pricing. I know I can go turbo instead, but I still have 94000mi left on the warranty

Any thoughts?

it is up to you and what your priorities are.

when the s/c costed $4100 installed from the dealership for the 05-06 models when it first came out, i said absolutely not worth. but when the price dropped to $1850 from trdsparks and the dealership will install it for $600 flat, yeah, that was worth it to me.

so if you wait, the price might come down.

supercharger:price, warranty, simplicity.

turbocharger, more money, no warranty, more power. more things that can go wrong.

also, unless you paid for extended warranty, your powertrain warranty is only 5 year/60,000 miles.

exactly like Drax said, the price dropped for the 05-06's and I just couldn't pass it up. Especially since I don't have to worry about tuning sessions and all that after install... For me, it was a little more cost effective. 1850+450=TRD S/C for me...

I did - I never buy anything without a extra warranty.

So if I do want to go FI, just wait and see what the prices will be? Should I bother with any other mods for now then?

Newbie question:
Would it matter when the S/C is installed in regards to engine health?

You can do some Mods... Like an exhaust wouldn't hurt to do. And it doesn't matter when you get the S/C installed. I have 20k+ on mine...

Just an FYI, the TRD CAI won't work with the S/C... No CAI will...

So mod lightly until you become FI

Any maintenance involved with the s/c?

Just buy a car that has the power you want. And having a turbo or supercharger, exhaust, ram air, etc, will give you maybe a second faster to 60. Is that worth it? Plus if you have an auto then it is really pointless. But if you have the money why not? I guess that is cool.

I put my supercharger in at ~63,000. ^ Ignore the guy above me. He's not too sure yet on what exactly he is talking about. This isnt a civic that turbo'ing it will bump you to 150hp and 100 ft/lb tq.
Not really any maintenance involved aside from letting it warm up before you beat on it and let it cool down when you shut the car off if you were driving hard.

Ultimately, yes it is. But, when you come on a forum and post something like this you get other's opinions, too.

I personally am in the same boat as yourself. I don't want the trouble or maintenance of a turbo post purchase, but I also don't want to pay $4000 for the supercharger setup.

Personally the new TT Simple kit looks to be the best bang for buck. With management you are still way under $3500 ... oh and you would get about 40HP+ out of this kit rather than the S/C.

900 is a lot for install, I only paid $400. The dealer is charging you an extra 500 for the flash tool. Save yourself the potential crappy install headaches and wallet pain and go to another dealer who already has the tool and has done a few of these installs before.

Weapon-R has one for our s/c. It works fine.
