Default FIC to log knock.. THEORY.. Test tommrow

Well, As always.. Me and some crazy idea

Well from tuning aem ems's on the scion... OEM knock sensor voltage say above 1.0-1.2 volts is true knock..

(Just use this for theory for now)

So now we have an idea of what voltage "knock" should be true at.. How do we read it?

Tap into the oem knock sensor wire and tap it into the fic analog a input.

Using a analog A or B input And select Analog A as load input like so:

Now with this setup. You will now be able to see "knock" voltage.

And as well you will be able to log this voltage and also be able to review it later..

Soooo NOOWW you ask... Well how the hell does mike know 1.0-1.2 volts = knock.. Maybe he's wrong O KNOOOESSS..

Well heres what i suggest you do!

Take your tune.. richen AFR to say 11.2 and make sure timing is not aggressive.

make a pass and log. Now goto your logger software and watch voltage. Now you can watch "fake knock" Or "noise" and determine what your cars "fake knock" is. so on this richen up run you seen max of .5 volts.. You can say anything above .5 volts is that start of knock and 1 volt would be knock!

Im going to test this tommrow. And i will create a better write up!

K thanks!

only two things i see could be an issue...1. the fic has a slight lag time and it also will depend on if youv done the RPM calibration as close as possible (not really a big deal so ya know) 2. (more of a suggestion) it would be great to have a warning light somehow set up.

being able to atleast data log knock is a fantastic idea and cant wait for the write up.

Well if someone knew how to do 'source" they could change the 12 volt output to analog a instead of map. and that would work..

You could use the fic 3rd gauge to do this as yellow and red could be programed..

I thought if you could use the map and alter the voltage to 12volt output above 1 degree on analog a map. but it only goes to 6 volts. Unless you could use a 6 volt relay. Or i beilve led's operate on lower voltage. If you could find a led that worked with say 3-6 volts it would work.

Analog A input Knock senor from car. Analog output to LED postive.

You would keep the map voltage to 0 untill say 1 voltage of knock.. At that point you would set anything above 1 volts of knock to say 3-6 volts (w/e your led is)

OK.. EDIT

You could use this http://www.memotronics.com/product?pid=1065 to then turn on any 12 volts operating device you wanted! IE: Turn on the error mode on boost controller. Turn on LED. Turn on specific LED on your cluster.

Or you could just us a 4 volt LED. And place the led to were ever your liking!

AHH bored is a hell of a drug!

one more issue.....most use the damn boomslang harness which doesnt come with analog inputs or outputs...thats what really sucks...wish boomslang wouldnt leave out those wires. but of course we have to do poop the hard way and find a universal harness and pull pins or find the correct pins at fry's or whatever.

all in all sounds like a done deal bro....should work like a charm

Did you see my edit? i found 3 volt relay and 4 volt led!

Im sure these pins can be ordered from aem!

If all goes well tommrow! and it works..

Ill make a Mtuned FIC knock detection kit!

It would include new push in pins. Led. step by step guide. with option for relay to give a 12 volt output!

Cheesy or not. Most people would not be able to source the input out put pins for the fic. find the relay. solder the wires.

Expecially if they want a relay add-on.. Most people here dont even know how to wire on up! or what it does!

I wouldint make it to get rich lol..

I would make it to help the scion comunity grow. And have more tools at there finger tips!

If we dont keep progressing we will regress! LOL

Id say it would be, heat shrunk. Aem plug in pins. Ground terminal. Led. The aem TC basemap with the input and output already set. printed pdf guide. And optional plugin for relay and 12 volt output!

for around 10.00 shipped!

10 shipped wouldn't be bad. It is a very cheap mod for someone who is tracking their car.
