Ok, long story short.....

turbo since 35,500 miles and now at 72,000. I've got one cylinder running at 120psi or lower now At my last dyno i had 350whp on 12psi spring with safc and dezod black box. Obviously not the best combo but it managed.

For months i've been looking for a stock motor and kept finding high mileage motors for around $1000 or more. Being the cheap basterd that i am, i kept putting it off more and more.

Luckily, my procrastination paid off. I found a local guy with two wrecked tC's and one of those only had 17,00 miles on it and 5 speed.

I got both the motor and the transmission for $100 a piece!!!!!

Now the downside....

The upper oil pan was cracked but nothing mechanically wrong with the motor except for a gallon of rain water in the oil pan and some on two of the pistons. Found out that the motor was sitting outside for 6 months under the hood of the tc (which the front of the car was non-existant). tore apart the motor and the head was almost perfect condition (minor surface rust on the cams) and the block was great shape (except for some rust in two of the cylenders). Not too bad for the price.

So, this morning im taking the head and the block to get cleaned, honed, and set back up to stock status. Then, in a few months or so, my current engine will get sleeved and modified for some serious power. I've also had a bare unused head that will get fully built to get high RPMs and max flow, the whole sha-bang.

Things are looking up for the 'ol tC. I was startin' to get tired of her but i'm buyin her an engine job and some botox.

sweet i bought an upper oil pan and a head from a junkyard for 400 for everything and upper pan arrived cracked and when i opened the head it looked like noone ever changed oil in the car... i was out of 400 basically and ____ed. but i kept the head and thinking about cleaning and maybe selling it for a 150 bucks or something.. i deployed few weeks after getting those item to the shop and never called the shipping company to file a claim... so my stupidity costed me money, but lesson learned no junk yard for me.

Sorry to hear that Rus, junkyarding can go both ways.

I plan on manley rods, CP pistons, Darton sleeves, removed balance shafts, oversize valves, BC springs/retainers, BC cams. That should give me plenty of room to build to whatever HP i want.

 

pretty cheap finds man! I wish I can find an engine that low in mileage and for that cheap. time to start looking

It will be custom gt40r kit FTW when i get done lol!!

But for now, i'll still be using the SP kit but ill max out the turbo until i get enough money to go custom and provide enough fuell and suspension to hold all the lovely boostness.

UPDATE: Just got back from Dover Heads in Greenville, SC. Their gonna clean and bore the block and do a valve job to get it back in stock running condition. I may get some CP pistons for this one and some K1 rods. Then my current (and barely running motor) will be the big nasty manley girder I beam rods and CPs along with some sleeves.

 

Does ANYONE have an upper oil pan? I need one ASAP for my build.

just got my Wiseco pistons and K1 rods in and dont wanna gank my upper oil pan off my current engine to build this one if possible. The one for this motor was broke in the event i didnt post that.

I promise boost hawtness and videos as soon as i get this thing broke in!!!

Hey also man.. You should check with ptuning for head and main studs! They make some really really nice ones! The ones i used on my build

Also make sure to get a new oil pump, or check the clearances on your now! Follow the oem manual for all silcone, as toyota puts oil gallerys in weird places! And make sure you o-ring between the engine girdle and the block!

hey make sure you do the measurement thing on the cam buckets so you dont have the problem Yev (ruswolf) had with his built motor and BC cams!

so the guys that were working on my motor ____ed me off today. The guy doing the work said that hte block may need to be bored at the time i gave it to them, i said ok bore then give me the dimensions. called them last wednesday, the owner said they didnt need to bore it and had just cleaned it. so i bought stock pistons thinking all was well. NO!! i get the motor today "well it needs to be bored" GRRRRR!!!! so now i have to get someone else to bore it and either sell thes wiseco pistons at stock size for 89mm OR exchange them at a 25% restock fee. that over $100......

Yeah, I always order pistons .5mm over and get it bored just to ensure a proper fit and grind off any previous wear spots. Have you thought about sleeving it? You may be able to get a sleeve to fit the stock 89mm piston, though not sure which would cost more (new pistons and bore or sleeving).

Also, if anyone needs a lower pan to tap a feed let me know. I have an extra tC lower oil pan.

 

well its getting bored tomorrow. i didnt want to sleeve this block, that will be the next one.
