Default Gauges going out of whack?

Sometimes I start my car and none of my gauges comes on. It's either sometimes I start driving and it comes on shortly thereafter or I have to lightly kick the wires above my pedals and they come on. I am tired of this. It works fine, but it's a PITA. Maybe a wire is pinched or something? Any thoughts?

Fix it If you know you can wiggle some of the wiring, then start tracing from there. Take the gauges out (only takes a couple of minutes) and see if it is the connector on the back of the gauges and go from there.

Sometimes they ALL are off and ALL comes on at the same time. Other times, sometimes 3 out of 4 gauges come on then the last one comes on right after. It's annoying. Seems like it's becoming more of a hassle lately.

Is it the gauge lighting or the gauge operation (or both) that is not working?

The operation works fine, it just doesn't light up sometimes.

Hmm...

The lighting behind the gauges is all powered by one circuit, so if there were an issue with wiring I would expect it all to go instead of just one gauge area. I will have to think about that one for a bit...

All 4 connectors can't come lose at once. So, I don't know what to do.

There is only one connector for the gauges. Just the one that plugs into the top left corner of it. The connections to each set of gauge leds are made via traces on the board, so no connectors there to come loose.

Without having it in front of me to work on, I am having trouble deciding what to have you try next.

I am talking about the Defi (Boost, Oil Pressure, and EGT) and AEM (AFR) gauges I have. Not the tachometer if that's what you are referring to.

how can you say that all 4 connectors can't come loose at the sametime without you even checking them, you must have a bad ground because it has happened to me before and i was hitting the gauge pillar to make them turn on until i took it off and saw my problem.

Ahh, didnt realize you were talking about add on gauges.

It has to be a connection somewhere in that case. A common ground would be the first I would check. After that, it is a matter of tracing the wires out. Does each gauge have an illumination wire? If so, I am assuming they are bundled together somewhere. If so, that would be a good place to check as well.

That's why its in the F/I section, hahaha. Otherwise, it would be in the Interior/ICE section. Anyway, I will check them sometime soon.

hahaha i had same problem too, sometimes all 3 turns off and on again but im 98% sure its loose connection.. it never happened again so i even didnt get a chance to fix it.. check your taps and wiring and that's it.. solder them if you have to, its way more reliable

I had a similar issue (gauge not turning colors when turn lights on), it turns out the wire to the lights was the ONLY one i didn't sodder.

I would suggest when you go through it, go back and sodder your connections.
