Default GReddy Emanage (Blue & Ultimate) VS. Unichip

After months of searching and reading, I have been told that GReddy is horrible and Unichip is better. But then again, I have heard that Unichip isn't as great as many people have said and that finding a tuner for it is a whole 'nother problem. Well luckily for me, I have found two places that can dyno/tune Unichip AND Greddy of course.

Now it is up to us on SL to discuss this. Which is better for safety, reliability, and performance? Which gives the most gains when tuned properly and which ones are the easiest to tune with?

I will be getting a Supercharger soon and will of course, get it re-tuned because the TRD map is horrible. Price is pretty much the same between the two because I would have to get the jump harnesses for GReddy.

Let the discussion begin!!!

PS: I know I said I was going Turbo instead of S/C, but I have changed my mind (again!!!) for different reasons. Please, just leave that decision out of this and just discuss on the fuel management systems please!!!

Just to leave some input for my vote, I voted Unichip. I had a supercharger on my 03 corolla, went with unichip, meth/water injection, and assorted other parts, got up to 285whp on a 117whp car. I like Unichip, and if you have a local tuner, ur set!

I prefer the emanage because you have more options and you can change your tune at anytime. Most tuners who tune the unichip can also tune an emanage so the unichip really is limited by the tuner you use (if you can get to one). Also the emanage has been proven on THIS platform (Scion tC).

There are some quality control issues with the emanage - sometimes the ignition chip needs to be re-soldered. This happened to me and to 1 other person I know (zer0). Other than that, the emanage is fine. I use it in my GReddy turbo setup, Karl uses it in his 311 WHP S/C setup... tons of others use it. People say to buy the unichip because you can't change timing with the emanage... Well, you can change timing with the emanage. I got the Emanage Ultimate and the GReddy MAP sensor & harness.

So you can change timing with the ultimate or do I need the map sensor and harness to do that?

Yes - you need the MAP sensor & harness.

So after a few days, not much has been discussed and it's a tie between the two. Right now, I'm leaning towards GReddy, but if anyone out there can really help out and give some real live feedback (as in experience and so forth) and some more technical data, I can reach my final decision!!!

I sent my emanage back to greddy and they fixed it.

I like the emanage, but I wish I didn't run into the problem that I had...

If you read, the broken ignition chip is from someone cramming the older board style back in it's case not paying attention to the chip hitting the housing. When it does not want to go in, people shove it hard and it pops the chip off the board. It seems they have resolved this in the later board designs.

Not always. My board was a later design, and it failed.

Also - I didn't do anything with the board at the time. It was sitting inside my glove box plugged in.... it just stopped working.

Interesting, There have been 0 reported cases on the last board revision other than yours, do you have a board revision number handy or a pic you may have taken..? have you looked at the large writup on the failure over at mohdparts? Failure comes specifically from hitting that one chip against the case as it is not in the ideal location "the only one that can come in contact with the case"

i would say ultimate, for two reasons, one i have unichip and no one knows how to tune it, and two ultimate controls more than unichip does,

How do you get the tc to work on the map harness.. I thought it only did maf... My plan was to get the ultimate to raise the rev limit and have the safety shutoffs and get the dezod box.. But if I don't need it that's good too..
