I Wanna Go Boosted
technically... its either the piston or the rod that can break... the rods are strong but not that much and i think they are not forged correct me if im wrong... but the pistons have really high piston rings which doesnt help the situation...
either of the 2 points can break due to different situations that caused its failure.. piston can get smoked from bad detonation...or to much boost and the rings go out... rods can break from to much spin, tq, or boost.. or cant handle the det. from the piston chamber.. either of the 2 has its own BS of going.. they would almost be equal in being problematic..
typically though u hear more rods going out then pistons.. but its all relative to each situation.. i hear about 50/50 on both parties... spinning a bearing, cracking a cylinder wall.. those are other common issues..

And excluding the 40 "different" cars, let's just stick to the tC here. Most of people who have had motor problems have reported Ring lands cracking/going bad. I think the community came to knowledge of the testings a while ago, and determined that the Rings/Pistons were the first failure point.
Not arguing with your mechanic, just giving you some input from the community here.

I am not saying Greddy is a bad kit but I would go with Dezod just because of their customer support. They will go above and beyond in helping you in anyway. Ask anyone to vouch for their track record.
I believe they said the Pistons were the weakest point. But I'm basing my analysis off of that. Basing it off of some people who have reported blowing their motors, or possible hurting them.
Either way, buy after market Rods/Pistons, drop them in, Boost 20 PSI and have fun I say...Go Big Or Go Home.

Well, I've been looking at going boost sometime soon (providing my job holds
), but I don't want to go big. All I want is a little more pep in the step. I'm pretty much limiting myself to around 230-250 whp, which it seems like every kit can get to fairly easily, and fairly safely, except the TuRD supercharger. And if a cheap (yet reliable) kit can give me that, I'm interested. If not, I move on. It's that simple. :D
I'm not going to go big, but I'm not going home.

That's what I was under the impression too. That Pistons were most likely to go first. More or less with the rings getting damaged on them.
F*!k a customer service. If the person who did the install doesn't know enough about the turbo himself, and needs to contact customer service to trouble shoot, then he shouldn't have installed the turbo in the first place...
You: "oh hey my engines makin noise and running funny"
Shop: "umm... let me call customer service and find out what it could be"
You: "customer service??? U have $6000 of my money and u have no idea WTF is wrong u C*!kSucka!?"
(That's what I would say to that)

If you replace the stock pistons with low comp piston's and dont replace the rod's and snap a rod when trying to make more power, u deserve a snapped rod for being cheap.
I hate to say it, but travis is right the pistons tend to fail first.
