Default Intake Manifolds: Descendant Racing vs Weapon R

If you guys got an aftermarket intake manifold with a turbo setup in your tc, which intake manifold do you think would perform better?

Longer runners do not mean that it will perform better.

Runner length is dependent on many factors such as intended RPM use, camshaft profile throttle body bore size, boost or not.

In general it's hard to pick which one would perform better of the two. There are some critical flaws in both designs.

Given the two choices if I had to pick between one of the other and knowing the track record in terms of quality of weapon R I would be forced to chose descendant.

I would not chose either though because much power can be made on the stock manifold. If it aint broke don't fix it.......yet.

I would choose neither.

I'm waiting for something to come out that has short runners like the GE manifold (I refuse to say it's Descendant) but with a tapered cylindrical plenum.

Agreed. And cast. Sheet metal manifolds leak. I don't care who welds them. They all leak at start and stop points of the welds. Then have to be rewelded and so on.

this

longer runners = na APPs
short runners = boost APPs

now if i had choose i'd first ask myself 1. how is the inside constructed (velocity stack plenums or flat weld plenums) 2. is the money for 15-25 whp worth it? 3. have either of these been tested and properly shown decent gains for the buck. 4. how will this affect me in terms of cost/tuning/install

just things to think about when purchasing and long term goals...

ideally the descendant would the better of the two because of its short runners though.

but i'd rather design my own then buy one of those overly priced things

Reason i chose weapon is.. its got a similar design to oem. Which is proven to make great power/tq. Yet it is going to be stronger then a plastic mani.

But Heat will be a factor in anything but oem since its plastic!

I guess asking what i would use? I have an oem.. If i "had" to buy one it would probably be neither of those. i would run the "gato performance" one. But the question was for which one of those..

In that case id pick the one that utilizes oem tb location and has oem style longer runners!

This mani was made with the extra 4 injectors for a 8injector setup.. it can be purchased without that!

I personally have never ever seen nicer hand welds! Plus his shop is uhh 10 min away!

A lot of good posts here, I think with what Don said, I might consider keeping my stock one, especially hearing the stock one can hold a lot of power as well.

Stock manifold holds a bunch of power, but between the two, if you upgrading, i would choose the descendant.

the oem mani already has a nice design from the inside its not bad.. its just plastic.. which sucks.. ive seen a few blow up everyone once in a while but thats at extreme power lower level.. well over 500 ish ..only once have i seen one blow around 300 but that also was a tuning issue as the intake chamber combusted early from bad timing and literally "blew the welds off the intake manifold " lulzzzz

Main factor of an intake manifold runner length is intended RPM use and Cam profile.

Plenum size is determined by amount of air being consumed which is no more than the size of your engine.

Us florida people got lucky!.. Gatos local.. He makes a mani for a racing rx7. They have to keep it a secret. Everytime there at the track they have to cover it with blankets or keep the hood closed.. Everyones always trying to take pics racing poperazi.

I think when i put my new head on. Ill be sporting one.
