Default Internals for S/C Application

Hey guys, I did some research and seems no body post any of the internals for S/C application. I would like to know what do you think about the JE Pistons and Dezod's piston and I don't know which is which is good for S/C. All I know is Dezod's piston can go up to 500HP and JE Piston didnt list anything of what HP it can hold on their website. If anybody who has these piston and would like to share their experience, please so I can decide which to buy. Thanks

Compression Ratio

tC's stock pistons: 9.6:1

JE Pistons: 9.0:1

Dezod's pistons: 8.8:1

For the S/C I would try to get as close to stock compression. Turbo apps I would go lower, and turn up the boost, but the S/C is a different story.

I thought the S/C has almost the same design as turbo but running from the belt so thought lower compression would help the S/C have more boost. Since you (zer0) said to try to get as close to stock meaning JE Piston has the best choice for S/C but 8.8:1 is close to 9.0:1.

So 9.0:1 is the best suggestion for S/C application?

I would go 9.6:1 if possible as that is stock compression on the 05 and 06. The reason for higher compression is the supercharger's power curve. Turbos make a lot of torque almost instantly while superchargers build the power gradually meaning that while turbocharged engines run at full boost most of the time, supercharged cars rarely ever see full boost.

Low compression lowers your off-boost power. So, in supercharged applications, you'll be running on lower efficiency for longer.

Now I get it! The problem for the S/C application with stock internals won't be able to handle if I wanted to boost over 320WHP. This is why I'm debating on which pistons would be better for S/C application. Maybe I'll have to have a custom made pistons to 9.3:1..... I don't know.

Now let's forget about the low compression below 9.0:1 so between 9.0:1 to 9.6:1, which is the best compression ratio? 9.3:1 is in between so is it a good choice? Will it handle over 320WHP?

i dont think its necessarily the compression ratio as it is the piston and rods themsleves...

just a guess, but it ASSUME(not sure) that would be fine

I'm just trying to boost the S/C WHP over 320 without blowing up my engine.

Yes I do, this is the link to 2AZ-FE engine:

http://www.jepistons.com/cat/je/spor...ta/2azfe.shtml

I don't find anything about what HP it can handle.... maybe I can't do the math or maybe it not on the list, it just said it accept turbo and nitrous.

I would recommend ours if you plan on pushing the limits of the motor. Ours are geared more toward tubo and higher boosting apps more than S/C'd apps. The downside of this venture will be when your not making boost, the car will feel like it has lost some suds.....The upside is reliable forged pistons that can handle some serious abuse.

Dezod, your pistons are 8.8:1, is that good for S/C? Some people told me S/C and pistons that are close to stock piston will work great with higher Horsepower. I started to think about buying your piston with H-beam rods but don't know if it is a good idea. So, do you still suggest your pistons and rods?

The difference between the 8.8:1 and 9:1 are going to minimal. Sure you can run ours on the S/C without a problem, but as I stated earlier....You will feel a bit sluggish when not in boost, but the upside is that lower compression on boosted motor means more pump gas before having to switch to race gas.

Paul_Dezod, do you know anybody who bought 8.8:1 piston for their S/C application? If so, I would like to hear their experience with the pistons and also rods too.

Of the 1st batch to hit the market, all of which have been turbo owners to my knowledge.

Dezod is a good company, but you should listen to what Zero said.
