Default My turbo bad for my setup??

ok, well ive talked to a couple people and heard there opinions on my turbo... its a masterpower 60-1, .48 exhaust with a stage 2 wheel supposedly, .70 compressor... im built block and revving to 7k at the moment... goal = 450whp for now.

now obviously this thing spools pretty quickly, going up to 7k rpm do u think im losing power in that rpm range cuz of the small housing? am i choking the power pretty badly after 400whp? (thats what i was told by the owner of masterpower).

my smaller housing would although be beneficial for the 1/4 correct?

yeah. .48 sounds pretty small if you plan to rev to 7k rpms.

your smaller housing would probably be bad for 1/4 mile time because that quick spool might make it too easy to spin wheels off the line, and then hold down your top end after that.

the small housing would be better for autocross for powering out of corners after hard braking.

so whats our capacity on our engine? if 4.6 and 5.0 liter mustang v8's are 5000, does that mean our 2.4 liter engine is about half that at 3000?

I'll give you my honest opinion on exhaust A/R sizing for the tC, hopefully without ruffling any feathers. A .48 exhaust housing is WAY too small for the 2.4L tC motor. If your turbo set-up is optimized (i.e. large downpipe and exhaust, optimal manifold design, etc.), spooling up your average T3/T4 turbocharger won't be a problem with a .63 or .82 A/R exhaust housing.

A typical T3/T4 turbo with a .48 A/R exhaust housing does "feel" fast when you quickly goose the throttle on the highway at say 3K rpms or so. That low end surge of boost will give you the impression that the car is ridiculously fast....... that is until you get up into the revs. At higher rpms there is just too much back pressure to create any good hp numbers.

With a built motor, especially one that is being revved to 7K, there is absolutely, positively, without a shadow of a doubt, no question that you should go with at least a .63 if not a .82 A/R turbine housing.

BTW, it's great to see more and more high powered tC's being built. Good luck with the rest of your build. Looking forward to seeing your results.

throw that .48 outta the door and get you a .63......mine spools quick and lasts till redline(6700 right now)........i had a .48 on my 54 trim turbo and could feel it dying around 5k rpms.....it would loose about 3 psi of boost.....so i checked boost leaks and had none so i figured it would be the exhaust housing....swapped out and it made a huge difference.......its also so much easier to run the 1.4 mile

ima see what i can come up with, i put this turbo up for sale, but the problem is the masterpower Super 60 they have which is either a 63 or 68 exhaust and 70 front is only a 4 bolt discharge... the dezod downpipe is 5 bolt.. FML... obviously i would rather just throw a gt30 on but i dont have that money laying around lol

stop your lies please! your ballin!!! lol now i can believe and go with what toan said but i am a hard ___ and sticking with my .48 to see what it does! its not hard to change the back housing or atleast the wheel so i'm not worried about it till i reach 20psi or maybe 22psi thats if my power band doesnt drop!!!and i am only reving to 6500 anyways. chad let me know when your going to do this or call mikes turbo and see if you change the back housing and the wheel.

why go through the hassle.. sell his turbo and buy a new one made for his app...

Btw dont waste ur money on a exhuast.. just run the oem one.. same as what your turbos doing to your motor!

Also not balling.. I research what i do.. only reason i may switch turbo now is i plan on thowing up a 600HP+ dyno sheet up soon
