Default need help on turbo plz

I'm planning on buying a ZPI stage 0 kit and I'm questioning whether or not I need E-manage or a black box from dezod(or any similar device).

So far I kno I need
BOV
EGT, wideband 02 sensor, boost gauges
new gasket

Im gonna run it on stock injectors b/c i dont race everyday and same goes for clutch

so if you kno what else i need or anything bout emanage and stage 0 ZPI plz reply

I'd highly recommend injectors... i maxxed my stockers out at 6psi (thats what the stage 0 runs) If you get injectors you need emanage(i think, someone correct me if im wrong), as far as the dezod black box, a lot of people here swear by it, but i personally i dont partial throttle boost, but i will likely still get the black box in the future.

the stage 0 runs pretty fine all stock. 390 cc injectrs(stock) are pretty big but you are getting a little close to maxxing them out. i dont see why you need an egt gauge. A/f and boost, and maybe oil pressure and you should be fine. It als depends on your driving. If you part throttle boost alot then you need an emanage and a dezod black box to stop the engine from leaning out. Also an intercooler if its ht where you live. Your now getting towards the price of a stage 1 but with that power level you need a clutch.

well i dont race much so i think my injectors should be fine same for my clutch...but what do you mean by part throttle boost? whats that? and also is it ez to work with emanage and the black box?

the black box was designed to over come partial throttle boost. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but part. throttle boost is when the stock ecu is controlling the engine's A/F ratio and you step on the gas a little. However you didn't step on it enough for the ecu to register as a Wide Open Throttle situation so it forces the engine to run a lean 14.7 to 1 ratio of air to fuel that gets injected. With the turbo, more air is being injected than fuel and thus leans out the engine quite a bit and can destroy cats like crazy from what I've been told. So...the black box overcomes the partial throttle boost by over riding the ecu in those situations and the emange, both the blue and ultimate, control the WOT situations that the car gets into to help with A/F ratios. Again someone correct me if I'm wrong and I will gladly open mouth and insert foot lol :D

thnx amd, so part throttle boost is like a turbo daily driver? and to have a DD turbo car you should get the black box? whats the point of getting emanage if u run it on stock injectors?

Lol, see I can only answer somethings that I have gathered from the forums that I read. I don't have a turbo yet but I read everything I can about them. Part throttle boost would occur a lot more on a DD yes. Mainly b/c your not punching it everytime you switch lanes, take off from a stoplight, etc. Having the black box is not a necessity, but a GOOD recommendation as to help keep the engine and cat system safe...assuming you keep at least one cat on there The point of all piggy backs, like the emanage, is to help control the A/F ratio when the car is at WOT. When part throttle boost, the ecu fights to keep it at 14.7 to 1, however, its my understanding that when the car is at WOT that the ecu tends to just dump fuel according to the stock A/F map that is programmed into it. The piggy backs supposedly take over when the car is in WOT stock injectors or upgraded ones it doesn't matter, b/c what the system is doing is using a custom A/F map for your particular engine setup. Scenario here: (NOT AN ACTUAL THING OR REAL NUMBERS!) Your driving down the road, car is in front of you, you press the gas pedal slightly to pass in an open lane to the left. The car is in part. throttle boost then assuming you have a turbo. Thats when the black box would come in handy to help alleviate the 14.7 to 1 ratio and lower it. To what I don't know, I think it itself is tuneable. Now, same scenario, only you want to past this car in front of you and there is another car just slightly to the rear of you...to where you cant pass unless you speed up and act like an a$$ like I do SO...to get around this car you punch the gas pedal, the ecu realizes what happened and initiates its WOT routines. This is where piggy backs like emanage take over and use your tuned map that you get when you dyno and tune the car to adjust the A/F ratio to whatever the motor is demanding and it deems is safe according to its parameters. The piggy back would try to get the A/F down to say 11s or 12s to 1 I think.

Again, I don't have a setup this is just bits and pieces of knowledge I've gathered to form my own view and perspective. I may be wrong about somethings and I would GLADLY like anyone to correct me so I too know what is truely right.

As far as your situation goes, you say its a DD and it's ZPI's stg 0. It does run on the stock ecu and injectors just fine. The suggestions of bigger injectors, emanage, black box are all just upgrades to help the setup to A) perform better and on some parts B) keep the engine at safer operating limits. I hope I'm helping you out some atleast...instead of confusing you

Black box is only made by Dezod, and yes you can do it yourself, its easy. As far as tuning your emanage, I would definitely take it somewhere and fork over the $$ to get a nice tune.

WOT=Wide Open Throttle this occurs when you floor it pretty much. There are set parameters that the ecu uses to determine it but I don't know what they are. An example would be like this: RPM increase 500 in 30 miliseconds=WOT condition The ecu would reconize that and then start "dumping" or feeding more fuel to the engine based on its stock A/F ratio map. So it may determine that to achieve what you want it needs 12:1 meaning when it detected that, it got rid of the 14.7:1 bullcrap and started dumping more fuel in the engine to achieve 12:1 ration on the air and fuel.

For the black box from Dezod, as they are the only ones to make it go here http://www.dezod.com/pd_dezod_motorsports_partial.cfm I've heard its really easy to mess with but if it were me, I'd let someone that knows what they are doing mess with it while they tune the emanage as well. If you have a manual tranny then the emanage blue will work just fine for you. If you have an auto tranny the blue will still work, but I believe its general consensus to get the ultimate b/c it is able to control the transmission as well. Once you get higher up in the HP range, which the stg0 won't be, then you run into issues with too much pressure being applied to the auto tranny and it won't shift correctly so the ultimate overcomes that and allows for sharp shifts. And as Mighty put it...definitely go some place where you know they are professional tuners and have worked with Scions before. It may seem a little pricier, but look at it this way, an additional 200 bucks on that tune may have saved you upwards of near 10k since your motor is still intact Since it's your DD I'm very sure you don't want to blow your block or break something else b/c someone didn't know what they were doing. (the 200 bucks is just figure of speach, I have no clue how much more it would be, and don't flame me on the e. ultimate please...its just a recommendation on what I believe, its not a nessecity) Hope this helps you bro.

ya thats the thing tho...so far i have on my list
ZPI stage 0 kit
HKS SSQV BOV
new copper manifold and wastegate gaskets from ZPI
antifoulers courtesy of autozone
as far as gauges go I hear a million different gauges lol......now what should i have since this isnt gonna be a racecar its gonna be a DD....im guessing a boost gauge...and a wideband gauge which i think tells you the amount of air going into the s-pipe... is that right?

also maybe the 200$ greddy emanage and a blck box.....how much would all of this cost altogther? im guessing 3k...correcting if im wrong please

Um, gauge wise I'd have atleast boost and wideband, the other one most people go with is oil temp or oil pressure. I personally cant help you one that b/c I dont have a turbo, and since I have an A/T my gauge setup will be different. Pricing wise I don't know, I know the stg0 is like 2k+ the BOV is 200, dont know about your manifold or gasket or antifoulers so what ever they add up to, just add that to the rough 2500 already. The emanage on zpi is 300 so that 2800, dezod makes a plug and play adapter for it if I'm not mistaking so you dont have to cut and solder your stock wires to the new emanage...to me that would be worth it but i dont know how much that is. and the black box is over 200 too i think, so your looking at anywhere between 3k and 3.5k depending on what all you get, and thats not really counting tax+shipping on stuff. Are you installing yourself? If not then you've got labor charges...oh and your tune as you can see if can get expensive depending on how much dough you've got in your pockets. Me i have none but I'm not going to even let my car see a turbo kit until I have everything that would make me personally feel that it is safe for the car and engine. Lots of people on here just get the stock stg0 kit and dont have any problems at all. It just depends on what you want to do, how much you want to spend, and how paranoid you are when missing with your engine. It's all a learning experience. A good thing to do, and im not trying to be a smarta$$ about it, but just read a lot of threads. No lie, even some that have the most rediculous titles, or seem completely no on topic still give A LOT of valuable information on these systems and setups. I've learned a lot by just reading through them.

NP...I think most are going with a either and oil temp for the turbos longetivy and safety, or the oil pressure for the engines safety and longetivity. Either way both are good. EGTs I havn't heard too much about and havn't researched a lot on them either so I can't give an opinion on them, but you can also be creative and come up with more than 3 gauges and still look good for shows.
