the hardest part about making a custom kit, would probably be the fitment issues, and getting things bent properly...thats the perk of the kits.....its cheaper to by all the individual parts, but more stressful getting it together neatly....dependant on what psi you're running, you may need internals....safely you could run on stock internals 6-10 psi....have you thought about a new clutch to handle you sudden increase in tq, as well as the cost of gauges, blow off valve, oil fittings, tapping an oil pan, and of course the tune....these projects really require much more than just the parts....i would also look at someone's turbo setup and try to understand all the parts and functions....and if you do our own install, you'll get a much better sense of how things work....
i guess it really depends on your budget, and what companies you like....any stage 1 kit will get you to around 300 whp, its just a matter of who you trust.....i would read through a lot of the forced induction section and make up your mind....just to name a few, the big contenders these days are dezod, turbonetics, greddy, treadstone, and zpi.....personally i went with zpi, cause i liked the idea of small turbos, and virtually no lag....never had a customer service problem.....and remember, every company has problems, etc....so i guess the best thing to do would see if you could find someone's kit to get a ride in, and try a few out....you'll be sold after that
