Default O2 Sensor Problems

So I have fallen victim to the Primary O2 going to the grave.

I figured I would start this post.

So perhaps if anyone's car mimics mine you can narrow it down without the use of profanity in front of young children

I get my motor mounts installed, drive my car from Atlanta back to Alabama everything is fine. Car fires right up AFR is looking great...no issues at all.

Get in my car to drive to the mailbox, yes I drive to the mailbox, and my AFR is reading really lean 17+ lean.

Right before I get out the car to check the mail box I throw a CEL. Look up the code with the scangauge its P0171....System Lean (Bank 1).

I clear it out kill the motor, fire it back up and i'm noticing its not firing right up. Once it fires up the code is going, since I cleared it, but the AFR's are lean once again.

I drive around the block and AFR's stabilize, I come back home let the car idle and AFR's are perfect. Cut the car off, fire it back up and the SOB is lean again.

I pop the hood, check for vacuum leaks...couldn't find any so I said hum....maybe there is a leak where these t's are in my setup. I run out to the auto parts store buy hose clamps and vac hoses and replace every vac hose in my setup and get rid of all the t's so now I have everything running to my vac manifold block.

Well now I have stronger vac pressure, the car idles better but SOB is still lean.

I check the spark plugs, they're fine.

Come inside do some research and it seems this issue has been discussed before and since it wasn't throwing both P0171 AND P0174 the problem is the O2 sensor.

So now I go on the O2 sensor hunt, I call Carquest and they claim the car only has 1 type of O2....yeah thanks but I won't be going to you guys since I know it has 2.

Call the local stealership and they have them in stock for $212...thanks but no thanks.

Hop on TRD Sparks and they have them for $170 but since I need it shipped overnight so I can head out of town the price rose too high.

So then I look up the Denso and Walker direct PNP OE sensors. The Walker is slightly less expensive by $25 w/ overnight shipping than the Denso. The Walker is $116 from Amazon while the Denso is $142 from RockAuto.

From what I understand they both are the same but the chart below is for reference so its easier for people to locate these things.

I'm not sure of anyone that is boosted or maybe even NA who's O2 sensor hasn't gone to hell on them so I guess i'm just the latest causality.

[tableddeaef710][mrowddeaef710]Brand[mcolddeaef710]Part Number[rowddeaef710]OEM[colddeaef710]89467-48050[rowddeaef710]Denso[colddeaef710]234-9044[rowddeaef710]Walker[colddeaef710]250-54007[/tableddeaef710]

Now if I can just find my frickin' tools that I used....I can't find them anywhere...I think someone came in my apartment and stole my tools.

Yeah, atleast yours died of naturally causes. I had to replace mine because my friend literally melted the threads off of it.

I read that while I was doing my searches. I was going to hit you up to see what the part number was but I found it.

Oh and your friend melted your O2 sensor, my friend hooked the motor ground by the starter to the 12v input of the starter. Smoked my entire engine bay and melted wire loom and shredded some wires.....I thought for sure the car was done....i'll take a fried O2 any day...especially when that's all it is.

Jon FTW...

I had a shop demolish my 02 sensor like 3 years ago before I started working on my car myself. They installed a DC Header....WD40 & a hammer later, YES, HAMMER, then it came off. I wanted to bash their heads into a concrete wall. It was weird though cuz I never ran into any problems until I went turbo, then the guys at World Racing took one of the 02 sensors out of one of Chris' race cars I think. God bless them , I didn't realize how frikkin' expensive 02 sensors are.

I don't have an emanage anymore, I only have the F/IC. I'm not sure if it works the same way. You don't still throw a CEL with it disconnected?

I ran 3 months without an O2 sensor and the F/IC. Had a CEL popup instantly after I cleared it. My tune would re-learn if I started the car when it was already warm and it would idle at 17+. Just run with the O2 sensors. It's just going to make things harder.

do not!

=( 4 o2 sensors, one maf sensor, two blown turbos, both axle shafts, clutch, 1st and 3rd gear a blown engine and bad rings on current engine does not constitute the most.
