open or closed dump? any sound clips etc, performance gains, how loud?

been thinking abut this for awhile now just wondering what everyone else is running. I like the idea and sound (from the few cars with it ive heard) but what about all the zpi stage 0 guys with it. Does it open and dump all the time just driving around?

 

It will only open under boost. It will be loud! You may gain 1-2 whp I would think. Unless you want the sounds its kinda pointless.

 

only 1-2whp ? that sucks i thought it would be more like 10-20whp.

 

maybe 20 hp for an open downpipe(exhaust) but not an open wastegate.

 

According to ZPI they make most of their kits open dump due to almost a 20 HP loss in their kits when they recirculation. I love the sound especially since it only comes on when you basically floor it (this goes for the stage 0 also).

 

Id just get a dump tube, so you get the best of both...the gains of open but dont get all the black crap all in your engine bay

 

i like the sound of open dump

if possible get the dump extended so engine bay doesnt turn black.

 

Yeah I just made one for myself lol, cost me like 20$ and runs all the way down to the bottom

Well if you ask turbonetics or Dezod they will both say you'll only pick up 1-2 whp from it being "open". It does sound good though. But if cops are picky around you I wouldnt go this route.

 

Open should get you more then 1-2whp. It's loud, I've hear a few setups in person. Just be sure to make a dump tube for it.

 

yeah, open dumps + dump tubes are loud as f*ck haha. as long as you dont go into boost around cops, your fine though.

 

i have a zpi stage 1 kit and my install made it a closed dump because its alows it to reciculate and is way better. open dump does not sound as good as a closed dump in my opinion. kind of loud and annoying

 

I personally prefer open due to the sound and the fact that it decreases the risk of boost creep. The extra power is only an extra.

 

That loud and annoying your talking about.....Is what strikes FEAR into the hearts of many...

As for it being better....I disagree with that as well.

 

cops are picky, so dont stomp your gas around them. problem solved.

 

all i know is what my install people did...it sounds dope and performs well...i made 258 whp @ 7lbs dynod in 90 degree weather and i had an exhaust leak to go along with that...i have never heard of ne other zpi stage 1 kit making that power with those conditions at only 7lbs. i could be wrong but i think the close dump does lose hp but helps in ur boost!

 

Because I'm not super concerned about HP gains and from my understanding you're DEF not going to pick up 10-20 more HP from an open dump, I recirc'ed.

Open dumps are just so annoyingly loud and not super beneficial unless you're running 500+ HP anyhow.

 

yeah i fully agree but even with that much power i full open dump is pointless all the 350z and g35's twin turbo's are closed dump and they have 800 whp...everything thing i have heard from mechanics is that open dump is old technology and their moving to closed dump systems
