Default Questions about the supercharger/turbo :::HELP:::

Ok, so I want to beef up my car a little and I'm really interested in the supercharger although I heard that its only for manual transmissions. Does anyone know if one for an automatic is going to come out? OR does anyone have any information on any turbos? I heard of one of those chips you can get to remap where the airflow goes but I'm not sure of whether or not they have one for the tC. I know someone who got that chip and it increased their horsepower by almost 50 horses..$400 though...

There is gonna be a fit kit to come out for the auto tranny...its just gonna take a lil while to come out. If I were you, unless you are very mechanically inclinded, go with the supercharger so you can keep your warranty.

http://trdsparks.com/tC05SC.htm
"The system is covered by the remainder of the Toyota 5 year/60,000 mile warranty when installed by a Scion dealer and is emissions legal in all 50 states."

TRD is supposed to be working on an "Auto Fit-Kit", but who knows when that will be released. I think the supercharger is a worthwhile investment for the average driver. If you go with a turbo, your dealership is more likely to deny warranty work on the drivetrain.

Before anyone flames me for the warranty comment, notice I said "more likely" instead of "they will". Big difference. And to the people that say turbo is better, I feel it isn't for everyone. I don't have plans to street race, or spend most of my time at a track. All that "extra" power would be a waste in my case.

also, if there was a 50 hp chip for 400 bucks, i would buy it with out any hesitation. That would be a little piece of heaven shining down on our 160 hp tC's.

50 hp chip is pretty unlikey for 400. Thats as much as the S/C gives.

Yeah the S/C or turbo debate sucks, because everyone has different reasons for wanting fi. I went supercharger because i wanted my warranty, i wanted more power, i dont street race, and i will autocrozz. So yes i would like 300 hp but i deffinetly dont need it to drive to work everyday.

I just wanted through my .02 in here. The supercharger is great and so is the turbo. It's all about what you prefer. I personally like a turbo setup better, I will probably go with the s/c though for warranty reasons and because im not gonna be at the track or racing some riced out '87 Corolla on I-84. It's all preference....s/c power is always right there, turbo has lag, but a little more power. YOU decide.

agmech i agree with the to each his own and all, but look into the workings of the s/c first. It has lag just like a turbo. Its a centrifugal supercharger so it spools the same way as a turbo but uses a belt instead of exhuast gases. Takes time to build up just the same

a ha......damn brain fart made me think of typical s/c not the centrifugal. Thanks for clarification. My students are always asking about this stuff and they don't understand the differences. Also, I'm looking into the turbonetics Stage II kit right now....sweet

Yeah Nick it does suck
Not to mention I've been e-mailing back and forth Grant from Turbo-Kits. com and I was disheartened to hear I absolutely have to run premium fuel. I knew this, but was hopnig some new technology would allow me to run 87 still. DAMNIT!! looks like I may lean towards the s/c unless gas prices start dropping.

The sc runs premium as well tho. I started the whole f/i thinking the S/C sucked. And I still wish it had more power for the price. But for a daily driver its safe and reliable.

Well I usually run 89 just because I have been used to paying so much more that now it still looks cheaper than months ago.

So What should I run?
