Qustion - Gauges & Other Needed when Going SC
I have been told by some friends that i should add a few extra things when i go Supercharger on my 08 AT tC, but since i am not too knowlegeable in this area i am confident i will get the correct answers from the many GURU subject matter specialist this great site has..Well this is all i have been told i need.
- AEM Fuel & Ignition Controler (FIC) - Because since i am adding the NST 9.5 overdrive pulley the TRD ECU reflash wont work ???
- Boost Digital Display Gauge.
- Oil Temperature Display Gauge - Digital.
- Voltmeter Display Gauge - Digital.
- AEM Wide Band 02/AFR Gauge
Please i would greatly appreciate a push in the right direction, and any recomendations will greatly be appreciated.

Voltmeter isn't necessary.
Oil Temp isn't necessary - oil pressure would be more useful.
Boost is good.
Wideband is good.
As for the gauges being digital, that's all up to your personal preferences. Some people like analog, some like digital.

With any boosted app, oem or not, I would run an oil pressure gauge without question. I even hate that stock NA cars dont come with a gauge. The oil pressure light is almost useless most times other than telling you that your engine is already in trouble
I would also run a boost and afr gauge as well. Oil temp is nice, but is probably the lowest on the totem pole of importance in this application IMO.
Voltmeter is not needed. Nice to have sometimes, but not needed for what you are doing.
I prefer analog gauges for the most part. The reason is that it is typically easier to see fast dips in pressure, boost spikes, etc. that with a digital gauge. Of course, a lot of units are most likely digital gauges with a needle for the display unit, but just due to the physical motion of the needle, you get a better picture of the transient responses IMO.
Plus, analog just looks so much better as well IMO

As it has been stated, for only using the 9.5 pulley, a F/IC is not needed. Now if you were going for a 12lb pulley and/or also wanted to put on an intake, and other mods, then yes, you would want the F/IC or others.
As for gauges, I have AEM gauges and love them (digital with an LED sweep) and I have Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, and Wideband AFR (but will probably be swapping Oil Pressure for Boost)

OK i am set with the gauges, i know what i need now, but as for the F/IC i forgot to metion that i will be adding the new Weapon R TRD SC Intake for the 07-08 tC...so its most likely i will need it now huh
Here's something i was told about the F/IC
when u throw on a bigger pulley it is STRONGLY recommended picking up a piggy back to tune the car with. You can use the reflash still but it wont run good at all. the reflash is only for stock pulley. so ur forcing the supercharger to put out more PSI on a tune that it isnt equipped for.

Well, if you have the afr guage then when you get the stuff on you'll be able to tell for certain wether you'll need to retune or not.
The TRD tune is really safe on the stock pulley, there have been several people that have run the 9.5 pulley and its been determined that the TRD tune can handle up to the 9.5 pulley with no problems. Any higher then you will definately need to retune
