i started my car up this morning and all was fine until i gave it a little gas when it was idleing. i noticed at around 1100 rpm it made a rattling type of noise. i wasnt really able to pinpoint where it was coming from but it didnt sound good at all. this is the first time i noticed this, idk if anyone knows what may be causing this ?

 

does your tc have a turbo or super charger, because if it doesn't, this in the wrong section.

you have to get more specific. what is rattling, in front of you, to the left, right? does it increase with rpms? does it sound like it is coming from then engine, or is something just shaking when the engine starts revving?

 

yes, my car is turbocharged. it sounds like when im sitting in the car its comming from infront of me closer towards the passenger side.its doesnt increase in rpms, when its idleing at around 700 or so its fine, then i give it a little gas and hit about 1100 rpm and there it is, once i go above 1100 it disapears then reapears as the engine slows down past 1100 rpm. kind of sounds like what u said, like something shaking when the engine starts revving.

 

could it be some loose plumbing maybe? seems weird that it would only happen around that particular rpm to me.

 

thats what i was thought, it only started recently. only thing i could think of really is that i disconnected the s-pipe from the downpipe to try and get a better seal there because the installer of my turbo said i had an exhaust leak there. when i put it back on, maybe the bolts got loose or something and are rattling around. i would think it would rattle more than just at that certain rpm.

 

I know the engine vibrates alot more at those particular RPMs.
I just put in my speed source motor mounts and at under 1k, it shakes bad (not rattling) but above 1k, it's normall. up towards redline is a little more then normal.

Did you do anything the stiffen your chassis lately?

 

no i havent doen anything to stiffen the chassis.....i was in an accident back in april and they replaced the whole drivers side suspension but that's it. im gonna go under my car in a little and try tightening up a few bolts. hopefully that solves it

 

Did you put new suspension on the passenger side as well?
Suspension parts should really be done in pairs to keep the wear even.
Unless of course your racing NASCAR!

 

as far as i know it was only the driver side. unfortunately, no i dont race NASCAR lol

 

I have the same rattle when it's cold out and mine was coming from the brace/ support that run right underneath the mid-pipe. The pipe was resting on it and would rattle until the car warmed up.

 

ok, i tightened up the bolts from the s-pipe to the downpipe. started the car up and the rattle was still there at the certain rpm. took the car for a drive, came back, rev'd the engine in nuetral to the rpm range where it rattled and it wasnt there...hmmmm
