Default with the rising cost of gas....

hey everyone. i have an 05 tc which my brother will be getting at the end of the year. at that time, i wanna get another tc with the TRD supercharger and i was wondering if you guys with superchargers/turbos think that its worth getting, now that gas is going to be passing the $4.00/gallon mark this summer...

thanks in advance!

I think thats all up to you...For me personally the fun of boost would justify the price...

Rule #1 of boosting.

Don't boost on a budget.

I'm not sure on the supercharger, 91 might be okay. Turbo, atleast 93 (depending on boost)

91 is the highest octane in Vegas. It's $.20 more per gallon then the low grade. That equals an extra $2.40 per fillup...not that bad.

My mileage (on an imperfect tune) get's me about 21mpg. before boost, I was getting 24mpg the way I drive, so not that big a difference. The pure joy of boost will outway the cost every day!

It's all about the tune. I'm speaking from the turbo side...not sure about SC...but with a turbo, if you dont' floor it and keep it out of boost, you MPG dont' change much, and you can even fix that with a good tune.

If your going SC, I'd wait to hear from some SC guys, but if your going turbo, I think it's worth it.

I expect after I get retuned to be back up to 23mpg.

it's only not bad having the S/C. Since boost hits at redline, think about this... How often are you at redline anyway? So if you are just driving normally, the MPG doesn't go down that much.

Umm...S/C is constantly boosting. You hit PEAK boost at redline, you don't just gain all your boost at redline.

Tune your ride for E-85 , $1.00 less per gallon, higher octane, and more HP.

You only boost under WOT or a heavy partial throttle. If your just driving around normally your not in boost.

IMHO I wouldn't worry about gas prices when determining boosting or not (at least for the SC). You will be paying for gas either way, boosted or not, unless you stop driving. On top of this, premium seems like it is a lot more (usually 0.20 more than regular), but when you calculate it...a full tank would only be about $3.00 more.

The price is going up regardless, if price of gas is an issue, I'd say don't drive, but that is impractical for most people. If you look at it, lets say you pay $3.50 for regular now, fill up is about $49 or so. If you were buying premium (0.20 more) it would be about $52.

Now lets increase the prices to say... $4.10 and $4.30, for regular at $4.10 it would be about $58, for premium, about $61. If you see where I'm going here, although it seems like a lot more, it really isn't, the only thing that will really increase is the general cost itself (which is going up if you boost or don't), but again if that is going to be hard for you, I'd say use public transportation or ride a bike.
