SC OWNERS: Broken Supercharger Impeller housing mount
#23
yeah understood. I took a long look at it, honestly it looks to me to be a fault design.... instead of cradeling the sc it looks to put allot of stress on that area when bolted in. I think I will actually take this one out, have it welded up and reinforced and re-install it so there will be no more hassle. Charger does seem to have a tad of play in it when you yank on it with the bracket broken...

maybe fixing this part might be another garage service (if the work isnt warranty work) - From the look of the design though - it does look like there will be more issues with this piece.

I gave Keith a call to tell him that more and more people are cropping up with this problem. He told me about the discussion he had with the TRD guy on the phone with him...
Now, Keith is a really sweet, soft-spoken guy. Ask any of the guys here who had their SC installs done in his shop. While he was explaining the problem regarding the SC mount, the person from TRD cut him off and in a nasty tone of voice said "THAT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN YOU OVERTORQUE THE BOLTS."
He was adamant about that, and the only thing he would share with him at this point is the part number for that mount so he could order it on his own dime. There was no further discussion, and the person from TRD sounded as if he's had this conversation before.
So anyway, I'm not sure what to do at this point. I obviously need that bracket, but honestly Keith is such a nice guy, I wouldn't want to stick him with the bill for it - especially knowing there's people out there who torqued that bolt to spec and STILL saw the problem happen.
I'm wondering if there's anything worthwhile the SL community can do about this. It seems like TRD has no interest in giving dealers any form of support for this install.

This is a good heads up to all S/C owners. I would of never thought to look down/back there, even though I do a look-over inspection everyday before I drive. Im gunna go check mine right now actually.

But yea - depends who you know. I remember one guy ..whoever it was ....that guy had someone contact trd and he got his s/c reconditioned for like $2-300. All that matters is who you know.
