I was looking around on the Slowboy Racing website looking at turbocharger options and a product caught my eye. It appears that SBR is offering built 2AZ-FE engines. I know there are several other companies out there, but this gives us one more option and I know SBR has a very good reputation in other tuner circles. I have been e-mailing back and forth with the company today and am working on getting more info on these built blocks.

price is just like from everyone else. I would go for Ptuning or Dezod since they are involved with the community alot more... But then again i have ERL performance built block.

I agree that labor is super spendy. The flip side of the coin, though, is that you know it was assembled correctly and if your engine blows, you can go back on that company instead of being out that money.
Everything on my car has been done by me, I just posted this up as an additional option for people looking for a built block.

just remember alway read the fine print.
rus beat me to it.....companies are going to willingly supply another block for someone that blew theirs, could be thousands of variables causing the motor failure and they will exhaust every option before sending another block
Haha all yall beat me to it, I second that - you realize whether you build the motor yourself or buy an assembled short block theres no warranty on ish like this lol even if they caused the problem during assy youll have a hell of a time proving it. Also when you buy just the shortblock - not a completely assembled motor its easy to blame a failure on imporper final assembly by the customer.
What i dont understand though is the high cost of these built shortblocks. Heres the cost breakdown including assy and machine costs from a local machine shop that is very reputable in the business - $500 for pistons, $450 for the k1 rods, $100 at a machine shop for cleaning the block and bore + hone, $65-120 in bearings depending on the brand - than about $200 at the machine shop for final balancing and bottom end assembly. So youre looking at about $1300-1350 depending on the bearings you decide to go with if you buy the parts and have a local machine shop do the assy and machine work.Thats over $1000 cheaper! - The only way i could see justifying $2400 is if its no core charge (so basically youre also buying a crank and shortblock) However ive found several used shortblocks with crank and full rotating assy in perfect condition for $400
**EDIT**
BTW those prices are with Wiseco 89mm 9:1 pistons and K1 rods - puirchased THROUGH the machine shop - with a quick google search I found the rods for $380 and the pistons for $475
