I was told by a lot of FI guy not to run Iridium plugs anymore and switch to copper with .028-.032 gap. I am running NGK one step colder than stock which is heat range 7 copper plug. I was told even though Iridium is suppose to be better it takes a little more to push the spark through then copper. Like I said I don't know this is what experienced FI guys have told me so I plan on using them not to mention the price difference. I understand that Iridium's will last longer but with FI both will have to be changed early anyway.

hey black....ive also heard that and my roomate used to run copper plugs......you have to change them at every oil change as well....needless to say he switched to iridiums and hasnt complained.

If you are changing plugs that often something isn't right. Depending on oil change intervals I would change them every 3rd oil change. I get your point about them and I may try to go back to them after engine is broke in and tune is redone.

HTe iridium plugs a pre gapped, and your not supposed to gap the them, possiable surface contamination

The reason they tell you this is so you won't gap the plug and take the risk of breaking or damaging the iridium tip. If the spark plug fails after you gap it causing engine damage they are no longer responsible since they warned you. Iridium tips are very sensitive and are very easy to break if not gapped carefully.

good god - ive never heard of people changing out plugs every few oil changes or whatever. Dunno. I found this post and after 60k miles I am looking to change out plugs. If my compression/leakdown tests are ok im going to get the s1 dezod kit. I have 36k miles on my engine. Should the plugs be different on a FI setup opposed to a non FI setup? There is no way im wanting to swap them all the time so someone please help - thanks.

Yes it is different. It also depends on the plugs you use like I said from experienced people have told me to use copper plugs and not iridium. I have been told to change the copper plugs out every three oil changes 15k only because of my setup.
