Starting issues on rebuilt motor....

Okay so for the past couple of days the motor has been back in the car and ready to go. I try and start it and the battery is dead so I let it charge over night. Next day go to start and its just cranking and cranking and cranking. There is fuel getting to the motor. I think this may be the problem. For some reason i am not getting ignition spark from the coils and even the coils with the spark plug. I have the standalone aem ems and that seems to be working properly as well. So I switched back to the stock ecu to see if i was getting any kind of ignition and sure enough it cranked a few times and there was backfire. so i switched it back to the aem and same problem was happening. Also the map on the aem still sems to be there as far as i can tell.

any one have any ideas on this issue? what it might be?

SoFloTC 07-30-2009 08:48 PM

ur timing might be off, this is the same issue marcelo had he had to reopen the motor and align the crank again even though it seemed to be aligned the first time, this is just an idea

m6ar2cel6oTC 07-30-2009 09:19 PM

it crank and starts with the stock ecu? if so its the map on the AEM standalone. if both are doing the samething well then it has something to do with timing.

BC_Scion_LA 07-30-2009 09:36 PM

hmm maybe it is the map then im not sure. The looking at the aem while trying to start the car is like trying to read chinese lol. i will check the timing tonigh and see if soemthing is wrong.

also it does not crank all the way with stock ecu. It just all of a sudden enables my ignition spark and i was cranking and it backfired and then i stopped. It never actually ran for any period of time.

Its not the timing its at tdc im out here with the car now anyother things? With the map being gone for some reason its hard to believe it can just disappear but i guess things are possible but when i plugged it in to the ecu and clicked ignition i could see the graph and everything not sure if that means anything though

ElevationTC 07-31-2009 12:45 AM

email me your map.. ill take a look! also i wonder if its syncin?

mike@elevationaudio.com

ill peep ur steeze!

and are you using a standalone with auto.. im pretty sure thats a no no

ElevationTC 07-31-2009 12:46 AM

check ur cam sensor..

what is your build? somethings not plugged in or someting! and send me that maP!

BC_Scion_LA 07-31-2009 02:24 AM

ya i will send the map...how exactly do i go about doing it lol. when i logged it the graph looked like it did show something with the sync.

SoFloTC 07-31-2009 03:51 AM

ya hes got a standalone on an auto, why is that a no no mike?

thendawg 07-31-2009 04:18 AM

Yea ive heard it might be possible to use the standalone with auto but id def like to see what it can do and how its done. I plan on evetnually having a fully built tranny and shooting for 350+ whp so a standalone would be the route id like to take eventually :P

after connecting your comp to the aem box.. save the map to ur desktop and then send it via email..

ill look it over if changes are needed send back.. then you connect to ecu, click send new calibration..

ur good

BC_Scion_LA 07-31-2009 07:22 PM

Standalone on auto a no no?? lol whys that its been working pretty good until all of a sudden i cant start the car. Talked to don over at dezod said it could be something with the cams.

Elevation i will get the map to you around 5:30pm cst. Dont get off work till 430 and traffic is a biotch lol.

garynkim 08-01-2009 01:51 AM

check your cranks sensor see if that is ok...

BC_Scion_LA 08-01-2009 01:53 PM

will do not sure when i am gonna be able to look at the car probably not today but maybe sunday. I will let yall know what happens

BC_Scion_LA 08-04-2009 12:49 AM

well the cam sensor on the motor seems to be fine the pins on the intake cam are still there and the cam is clean along with its connecter i am not sure what to check now. Starting to feel like the car is dead forever

yamaha16bw 08-04-2009 12:56 AM

bc cams?

if so check the cam sensor mag. pickups on the intake cam. make sure they are gapped same as the stock cams.....it wont idle or may not start till you do that. mine where off a bit and someone else had idle issue with a aem with the same problem with the bc cams.....easy fix though

BC_Scion_LA 08-04-2009 01:07 AM

i dont have after market cams they are stock. cams though thats whats weird.

Prototype_xB 08-04-2009 01:16 AM

Backfire sounds like bad timing, ignition when the exhaust valves are open

Edit: Bad timing on the motor i mean. If evolution adjusts ur map and u still have backfire issues, i would check the timing on the engine, since it seemes to be doing it even on the factory ECU. Although that could be from larger injectors + factory tune

yamaha16bw 08-04-2009 01:52 AM

If you have stock cams then I'm willing to bet you have the timing off somewhere with the timing chain. That seems to be the first mistake with built tC's that wont start.
