Default stock turbo haters

I was at a local swap meet @ aig performance in westminster md. "a subaru speacalist". I came across a fmic for my buddy who has a turbo merkur "don't ask, it's a german ford" anyway I joked about sqeezing the intercooler in his car, when the owner asked what it was 4. After small talk about my buddies car I joked about picking it up 4 me. I then told the guy about my turbo tc, all good. As i started 2 walk away I heard this DIC_tionary mumble that a wrx intercooler was 2 big 2 fit a scion. Look this fmic was no bigger than the 1 I have already. Being the nice guy I am I called the guy out on his stupidity. He went on 2 back talk but my point is it takes more time and effort 2 turbo a natural asp. car then it does 2 upgrade a fact. turbo car. When i talk 2 people about my mods and efforts the seem 2 look at me like my car has no potential. I have a few wrx's under my belt in heads up racing and i don't no why they HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it typically does take more work to start NA and go turbo than to upgrade a stock turbo setup. So he was right there. But if you have an NA car and want power adders.. then that doesnt mean much to you since you have to start NA and go turbo

I knew just what you meant regarding the Merkur. The Xr4ti ? I believe that was a 2.3 liter 4 cyl (same as the 4 cyl mustang and the ranger). The issue they had stock for some time was the turbo seal going.. which due to the way it was built ended up vacuuming the oil out of your system for you very quickly if it was spooled up But replacing the stock seal seemed to fix it for good. I remember a few of those from some of my dads customers. They were funky looking cars, but I hear they were pretty fun to drive. A couple of them autox with us.

Yeah it was an xr4ti, there are simple upgrades 2 fix the problems, and adding a volvo intercooler is a common swap. It just ____es me off that my hard work is looked down on.

people will always look down on us, just like hondas but little do they know that some of us are really a force to be reckoned with.

I dont run into it at all really. Actually, I get a lot of nice comments on the tC at autox events. Difference being.. I am not around a bunch of ricers or fanboys.. they are enthusiasts

I unfortunately work with a bunch of Honda fanboys.
Everyday is an F'n giant argument.
Bunch of haters out there though.

I rarely get messed with anymore around me. Took a couple of runs with some "famous" locals and word got out. Ive had a few evo's and sti's flat out say no to a race. Still get alot of ____ from the stangs and camaro's tho. In Detroit us import have to stick together.

nobody likes scion's. Ive been noticing this alot lately. Unless you own one, know someone that has one or got your a$$ beat by one then all people say is that they are slow and worthless.

As much as i hate to agree with them, xA's and xB's in stock form are pretty bad. The transmission in clunky, the cars look like they are on stilts and the styling is very love it or hate it. xA wasn't my first choice of car but it was the best bang for the buck, it was the xA, Yaris or a an over sold Corolla (cheap version).

After getting on this website was when i noticed the potential these cars actually have. I always thought rear live axle was the work of the devil, but it works PERFECTLY!! My car has a nice stance, excellent brakes a better transmission feel and all the power i would ever need.

Honda's are great cars, but they lack the soul and passion we scion owners put into our cars. Who cant make a honda go fast?? Easy buy an EG or EK civic drop a K24 in and your done. Now try to make a scion go fast, its a little bit tricker but if you pull it off, ADIOS HONDA!!

I say scion's have to stick together because for some reason we are the ugly ducklings of the import scene.

Been running pretty rich lately due to our almost 100% humidity everyday. Other then that its perfect. A full year this month on it. No maf on mine but my brothers is still running the maf only for air temp readings though.

^^ One thing I noticed about the hydra is that, it gets really rich when it colder like when its in the 70's but tune is afrs are good in the 90s and it gets a little lean when its like 100 deg, do you get those changes too yamaha?

Again, the "everybody hates scions" comments are really limited to the group of people you are around. I have yet to run into that anywhere. And I guess since I went to college and work in a professional environment.. there are no fanboys around And since the autosports club I am in is full of non-tuner car enthusiasts, there is none of that either.

My car runs insanely good at 70 degrees. 90's or higher it gets alittle too rich....smelly and black smoke under heavy load. 50-60's i get alittle lean. not enough to do damage but I stay off boost in those temps.

i have a tc, and i have a eagle talon and you are right it takes so much more to turbo a tc then a factory turbo car but the fact is i read things on this site like setting a turbo to 7 psi on tc's? that just makes me laugh cause i have my talon set at 20 on the stock motor so in reality most people are never going to respect you untill you prove them wrong

Setting the boost low is nothing to laugh at. I autox my tC, and running 300 or more hp on a fwd blows hard for autox IMO. Traction issues, handling issues, lag out the ****, etc all suck when you are trying to autox. So it really depends on what you want out of the car. I may or may not ever boost mine.. and if I do, I will keep it at the level where I can best utilize it.

Even for a dd I would never run more than about 250 whp in my fwd. More power is cool and all, but I just dont get much enjoyment dealing with a laggy, wheel spinning fwd day in and day out. If I wanted to run 400 hp, I would buy a correct wheel drive... errrr, rwd car

So it just depends on what you want. This crap about getting others respect is a joke.. thats high school stuff. When you spend enough time around enthusiasts you start realizing that everyone has their own reasons for the amount of power, number of mods, etc they have.

I could just as easilly laugh at all those DSM's that blow 3 motors or tranny's a year too.. hell.. even stock ones. I see more DSM's with dead tranny's at my fathers shop than just about anything else.. even ones that are driven by soccer moms. But, if someone likes those cars, I am not going to bash them for it. I have seen more Talons blow stock motors than I can count (even on stock boost), but I know a lot of guys that love them and do cool things with them, so that is fine by me.

This is less about what is the better car and more about who are the better people to hang out with

My old '91 Talon TSi was FUN with a welded center diff. 6k drops on crappy tires in the rain was fun.. virtually no slip.

Yamaha, What are you using for IAT's? Did you buy a sensor that plugs into the Hydra?
